I already had some basic Samsung SSD's installed on both my desktop and laptop and already are pretty fast, but decided that I would try it on my desktop PC just to see how much faster it would be.

The booting and loading differences are like night and day. It can handle more commands with the newer controller's larger I/O queues and also helping with power consumption. The new tech for temperature control is top notch and only adds to its overall value. Make sure that you have a good cooling system installed. 

Transferring files have improved and my gaming feels buttery smooth. I suggest installing Samsung's Magician software for even more hands-on and control of your SSD. I am undoubtedly beyond pleased. 2 thumbs up!

980 Pro 500gb

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ive had this ssd going on 2yrs now, and has been phenomenal. I use it as my boot drive so it doesn't get a whole lot of data written to it. Speeds have stayed pretty consistent over this time, performs around 95% of the speed tested at initial install. I also have a 980 pro 1tb and 870 evo 1tb that are great as well.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Samsung's 980 PRO SSD has delivered my PC into the next generation of gaming and content creation. While I've previously owned an SSD, there's a world of difference between a SATA drive and this NVMe SSD running on PCIe 4.0. With peak speeds reaching 6,900 MB/s, the 980 PRO won't ever be the bottleneck slowing down my computer.

Installation was as simple as inserting the SSD into an M.2 slot and securing with a single screw. The 980 PRO doesn't include a heatsink, but even without one, the SSD's firmware and thermal design do a great job at keeping the heat under control. The 980 PRO's performance, temperature, security, and health are all easily monitored and configured through Samsung's excellent (and free-to-download) Magician software.

In use, the 980 PRO has proven both exciting and essential. Loading times are blissfully-short in games old and new. I'm always among the first to load into multiplayer lobbies, so my teammates never wait on me. Of course, this SSD's benefits extend well beyond gaming. Windows boots up in a flash, browsing through thousands of photos is a breeze, and 4K video editing works fluidly, all thanks to never needing to wait on storage.

Samsung warrants the 980 PRO for five years (or 300 TB written for the 500 GB SSD). My previous experience with Samsung SSDs suggests that I probably won't ever invoke the warranty, but there's great peace of mind in knowing that Samsung stands behind this drive for a long time.

Overall, I highly recommend this SSD for gaming and beyond. With modern consoles now integrating their own high-speed SSDs, games will be both designed around and best experienced with high-performance storage. There's no better way to bring your PC into the next generation than an upgrade to the Samsung 980 PRO.

Ultra-fast and reliable next-gen storage

The difference was noticeable immediately, boot time was phenomenal. The responsiveness of loading games was so much faster than my old ssd. I will definitely buy Samsung from now on.

Best you can get

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have this loaded with 1.5 gigs of material and it just screams with speed.  PC starts and loads Win 11 Pro ready to go in less than 30 seconds.  Running Samsung's Magician software shows no bad sectors.  Love it!

FAST and solid!

samsung had the recipe for success by keeping their flash as mlc while everyone else went to tlc or "3d nand".  this gave them the edge in speed for years. and with the fact that the average home user wont use up the number of writes on an mlc flash drive inside of 10 years (i actually have an old vertex 2 from 2009 still going just fine) they decided they could afford to switch to the same tactic that everyone else is using of some slc cache and then very slow tlc or even more than 3 layer flash for final storage.  

will you get the advertised speeds? yes for a while till you run out of that single layer cache.  

will i recommend it to a friend? no!  do your research and find out which other pcie4.0 m.2 drives beat this one and buy literally any of those.

How to ruin a great product line

unfortunately you will get the advertised write speeds only for a very limited time, before they drop close to 1,000 mb/sec.

i built my pc about three months ago and initially the write speed was phenomenal. while investigating some recent performance issues however i did a few benchmarks that all showed a write speed between 1,000 mb/sec and 1,200 mb/sec. a quick google search confirmed that this is a common, and to my knowledge as of today (03/23/2021) unresolved issue.

Massive drop in write speeds, cannot recommend
