I needed a new bookcase for my office to put my new Milwaukee Victor Stereo system on, so I bought this 3 shelf bookcase. I've bought Sauder furniture before and it's usually been a pretty good experience! This little bookcase did not disappoint. I put it together myself in about an hour. The lightness of the wood means that it doesn't get Dusty looking as fast, and it's perfect for my stereo, my CD's. my books and some knickknacks. The instructions included pictures and it was easy to build. The price was right, the quality is there and I do not regret this purchase at all. Recommended!

I purchased and assembled 5 of these shelves. So it's a five star product in my opinion. Easy to put together and holding up very well. Nice finish too.

My two sons wanted extra shelving to put their treasures on and these shelves were just the right size for their smaller bedrooms.  Sturdy construction,  not light and flimsy.  Also,  a good choice of colors.

Sauder Woodworking Co.

This is my sons third bookcase, we already have two full ones. I was looking for something to match the ones he already has, which we purchased somewhere else. It is a dark cherry, it matches perfectly. It is also a couple inches taller than the other two I have, and better quality. I paid about 20 for the other two. This one was 30, I guess I would have to say it's worth the extra ten dollars! Very sturdy and easy to put together. Also, maybe the best feature is the shelves can be all spaced equally apart. With the other two bookshelves he has, the top shelf in each is completely useless because regular sized books will not fit in them. Very happy to see with this one that each shelf is capable of holding any book we have! Can't wait to fill it up, would buy this brand again and would gladly pay the extra 10 again, worth it!

Wonderful bookcase!

This bookcase is actually very good value for the price. No its not real wood, its particle board and a card board backing... but for the price its a steal very good value, its strong enough to hold what it needs to I stack all sorts of things from my candle shop on here and it works fine! the bottom shelf is strongest.... I can tell you I have two 5 shelf book cases from Ikea that are particle board made and based on the quality it is about the same quality which is why I am pretty surprised since I have had my Ikea book case for over 10 years... so you are getting a very good deal. I brought two of these and they work great for my shop stuff! Also love the appearance :)

I highly recommend it and its easily to put together! First time I ever put furniture together so I had no trouble with it , the first one took me an hour and then when I know what I was doing the second book case was like 30 minutes tops very easy to follow... just dont forget to have a hammer and screw driver handy for putting it together.

I figured it would be more flimsy than some because of its being inexpensive: but the cardboard back that is more flimsy than some cereal boxes is the reason for the lower marks I'm giving it....so buyer beware, it looks like Sauder Beginnings bookcase will probably be a temporary fix. Just hoping it will hold books, as that what it is called and what it was purchased for!

Flimsy back

You can't tell from the picture, but only one side of each of the shelves has a white finish. The other side is raw. This includes the top and bottom of the shelf unit. Standing over the shelves, they look okay. If you sit down and look at them from across the room, you can see the raw "wood". It also has a strong chemical scent that takes awhile to wear off.

Gets the job done but not with style.

For under $30, I didn't have high expectations for this bookcase. As long as it matched my other furniture and did its job, it was fine by me. The instruction manual to assemble this bookcase was simple to understand, which was great. There were only a few pieces to put together and you will need a phillips screwdriver and a hammer. The backing of the bookcase is a flimsy board. The backing was tri-folded for shipping. I didn't like the way the folds showed up on the face side with the paper cracking on the folds, so I flipped it and nailed it down backwards. It didn't look too bad. If you put it against a white/beige wall, it's unnoticeable. I think the white creases on the dark wood colored side would have bothered me more.

Not bad for the price

Looks very cheap. It was a nightmare to put together. Took me two hours to align it properly (with help). Shelves do not feel very stable. The back area did not have marks of where to add the nails. I have bought much better bookshelves from Walmart before. The shelf supports are impossible to remove without pliers so the shelves are not easy to change position. Shelves can slide around since they are just on top of the supports. I guess you get what you pay for.

Difficult assembly, looks cheap

I got it together and it looks fine. The phillips head screws were poor quality and the pre-drilled holes could have been better. Maybe a screw with a square drive? The driver bit (brand new) slipped out of the screw almost every time and made me use some words I wouldn't put in this review.

Fine for the price

Pro: it is stable and can hold a lot of books.
Con: it has bad smell of new material, so I cannot put it in my bedroom. I can only put it in a spare room, which I do not stay long. The installation is not as easy as they indicate, it takes a lot of strength to screw into the wood because there is not holes for the screws to go into.

In sum, if you are a female who does not have a lot of strength to do the installation, I do not recommend it to you. If you live in a small apartment and cannot find a spare room to let the smell go away gradually, I do not recommend this bookcase to you.

I hope the smell will disappear gradually. It has been one week and the smell remained. I will wait and hope.
