Baby elephants are still quite clumsy after their birth and must first learn how to handle their trunks. They are still not able to feed themselves with it, so suckle from their mothers for the first year. In the process they gain a good kilo in weight each day. It is very important that they grow big quickly, because a lion or crocodile can hardly cause any harm to healthy, adult animals. If a predator does come dangerously close, the adults form a circle around the young. They are well protected in the middle.

Overall Quality

These small animals are very life-like, surprisingly so. This little elephant I bought has a spirit all his/her own. Actually I bought another one because elephants like being with other elephants. I'm happy with these purchases.

wonderful product at fair price.

Well made, the detail is extraordinary. Great quality.

Beautiful

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My daughter fell in love with this one twice. As soon as she saw it online and then again when it arrived in the mail. It's adorable and the perfect addition to our wild life collection.

Amazing detail. Imagined it to be a real life living elephant in her tiny hands.

My daughter loves elephants, so she now has the calf to go with the adult elephant. As you'd expect from Schleich, it's very detailed and high quality.

Great addition to daughter's Schleich collection

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This elephant calf is darling and is a great addition with the African elephant and our zoo collection

So, so cute

I bought this a while back to go with the male elephant and its a perfect addition. The female version is in the mail as we speak!
