Good Dependable Product

After spending several minutes trying to get the backing off, I Googled to see if there was some secret.   Thankfully I found this page of reviews, and found out there is an 8” section at the beginning that has a bonded rubber cover, and requires you to pull the tape out 8” before you get to the double sided part. Why this is not mentioned on the packaging and instructions is beyond me.  Once you figure this part out, then it works fine.

Overly Complicated for Such a Simple Product

I was frustrated at first, trying to use this item.  Then I found this web page, read some reviews and realized that you MUST dispose of the first eight inches of protective wrap before attempting to use.  This is info that really should be printed somewhere on the packaging.  If not for this, I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4.

Great product, BUT must dispose of 1st 8" of tape

Just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to remove the protective backing off of the tape before I came to this site to find that there are 8 inches of protective wrap you just remove.   Seems like alot of waste, even if not included in the dimensions.  Better instructions needed on the box.

20 minutes wasted

Like many other reviews here I had a difficult time figuring out how to get the tape to work. There was text printed in 4 different languages, but, the directions were not clear and it was not immediately obvious that this tape does not have a liner unlike other brands. The should put the directions on the back and make it very obvious that the first couple inches of tape are unusable. Perhaps using the familiar red scotch pull tab as the first few inches instead of the weird text printed tape would be a better solution. 

Also, this tape isn't as sticky as I was hoping it would be.

Frustrating and poorly designed packaging, but, ok

Not amazing that there is likely a high return rate of this product.  
With English not visible on the protective film, it is not obvious how to use the stuff.
I almost threw it out before going on line to find out how to use it.
Why not put visual instructions on the dispenser card???
I would have given it 1 star before finding these instructions.
I don't recommend this as it is now.
C'mon 3M, you can do better than this.

Getting past the protective film

Very poor product. It takes way too long to remove plastic liner off tape. I  am creating an entire archival scrapbook with 12 pages finished.  It took me hours to rub the photos so they stuck to the page.  Several days later  more than half of photos no longer adhere to the page. Would like to know why this product is still on the market. What is the recompense? How will 3-M compensate me for a failed experience?

Scotch archival 2-sided tape doesn't work

We tried and tried to get this tape to separate without success.  THERE ARE NO DIRECTIONS ON IT.  We are not stupid.  Finally I decided to look on company website for directions.  NONE.  I read the comments and see the response to pull out 8".  I have never used double sided tape before - why would I think of doing that?  Frustration!  Annoyance!

Could not separate tape to work double sided.

I use this double sided tape to mount photos and have multiple dispensers since I use it a lot.  However, recently, while using this tape, the very beginning of the roll, the tape splits and I end up unable to restart the roll.  I tried several different times trying to free up an end to start using these rolls again.  Very disappointing.

I figured it's 3M so it should be an excellent product.  The problem is, is that you can not peel the top part of the tape. The the bottom that you adheres to the item is not the issue. Peeling off the top layer does NOT come off. Sadly I purchased a pack of 5.  Save your $.
