This was much easier and more even than casting the fertilizer by hand. There was a little problem with generic brand fertilizer as the pellets were larger and did not flow as smoothly as the expensive (but less nutrient dense) brand name fertilizer.

We do a lot of projects in my home. From painting the house, art projects, or even working on the cars, these are a must. My husband and I both use. Great to use if ypu don't have cloth rags, or don't want to get your washable rags that dirty. They are very sturdy and hold up well.

I have an older model??? Mine has a wrist sleeve, arm that your hand goes through to grasp the handle. It's comfortable especially when spreader is full to the top. I used it on my 8,000 sq, ft yard and now my 1500 sq. Ft yard and had no trouble at all. I am not very strong in my arms and older with disabilities. Happy I have my model spreader but would buy Scott's again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this spreader on a large lake lot in areas where I cannot get to with my larger spreader to spread seed and fertilizer. I live on a corner with sidewalk all around. I use it there to spread ice melt . Very easy and never clogs.

Easy to use

Bought the handheld spreader to reseed several problem areas of the front and backyard lawn. Found this product to be very light weight and easy to manipulate. It works quite precisely to deposit seeds on the target areas for reseeding and repairs. Very happy with its functionality and light weight.

This product is compact and very functional.

It is a bit flimsy but overall you should not expect more if you are looking for something low cost. I have very small lawn area so I did not want to spend $50 or more on a sturdy one. It will do the intended duty for me.

OK for this price

I've been a lifelong customer and buy about 6 boxes of these Rags in a box per year.  This last order guess what??? The rags are different!  Small than the original and not as soft.  Come on Scott!!  Where are the usual towels I've come to know and love??

I should've read the reviews before I purchased this product. This morning I started to spread some GrubXe on my lawn. Before I was half way through a (small) bag of GrubEx, my Scotts spreader started to bind up. I emptied the spreader and turned the hand crank, both forward and backward to help clear what was binding it. That didn't help at all. It seems the problem is in the hand crank gear housing involving the gears. I went on a few websites to see if this was a common problem or if, by chance, I got a defective product. After reading some reviews, I found a pattern of many people experiencing the same problem I had. Today I'll be returning my Scotts spreader and then do some shopping for a different brand of spreader. Scotts should do a recall of this product and have their engineering department do some redesigning so customers get what they paid for....a useful product.

Scott rags in a box used to be tough and robust but now they are the same as regular paper towels sold in the grocery store, only thicker. They changed the product recently. View the original rags on the right and the new rags on the left. The new rags rip apart like tissue paper. Not recommended for any kind of shop use except to wipe up spills.

Grade went down

I'm on my 3rd box of Rags in a Box. A box usually lasts a few years. Not this current box though. I have to use 50% more product to get the job done. Once I'm finished with my project I spend time cleaning up the bits of rags that fall to the floor and my workbench. I've been using these for home clean up jobs and for maintaining my road bicycle. This new box is very frustrating. The rags rip and shred very easily. They are not nearly as absorbent as the previous version. They do not hold up as expected. When in contact with anything remotely sharp the tear right through. The changes made to this product are extremely disappointing. I'm ready to throw the mostly unused box away and look for another product. These Rags in a Box no longer get the job done. This is a very poor product change obviously geared towards greater profitability and leaving the customer aggravated. I tried to use the contact us option but that doesn't work!
