Ammonia Alert is an innovative color device for continuously detecting and monitoring toxic free ammonia. A sensor changes reversibly from yellow to green to blue, relative to the ammonia concentration. No test kits, chemicals, or procedures are needed. The device detects less than 0.05 mg/L (ppm) free ammonia and alerts you to the #1 killer before any sign of stress. It lasts over a year. This product is not recommended for use at acid pH. Marine or freshwater use. In the absence of free ammonia, the unit will assume a yellow or faint yellow-green color. It is normal for the dry sensor to have a greenish hue. It may take up to a few days for a dry sensor to equilibrate with the water. No sampling of water, chemicals, or test procedures is required. The presence of the free ammonia is detectable continuously with a response time of about 15 minutes. Response to decreasing ammonia is slower, requiring about 4 hours to go from TOXIC to SAFE on removal of ammonia.

Works great to detect changes in ammonia levels.  However, it can be deceiving as it read my levels as normal yet my fish were staying close to the bottom of the aquarium.  While having only the tank light on, it read normal, but once I switched on the room light to get a better look, I could see the color was actually in the alert stage and was able to reduce the levels with a 50% water change.  Well worth the money and saves you the hassle of testing the water with the test kit.

this shows the actual deadly ammonia amounts ! API mater test shows both toxic ammonia and free ammonium in their ammonia total which always madee feel like my water was deadly when it isn't!!!

I have one in each of 8 tanks. I test with strips once a week b4 water changes. These discs accurately reflect ammonia spikes. I will continue to purchase regularly as long as price remains fair. Love them for quick and easy checking.

I like having peace of mind when I look at my tank knowing my fish are safe. This product couldn't be easier to use.
