great speed, I can run 100gb games from this external on Mac M2 with no lag at all. it is fairly quiet during transfer of multiple TB at once or during games. I have 2 WD passport drives that are much louder and not as fast when gaming, this one is a great upgrade and it costs at least $50 less. I am very pleased with this drive and would absolutely buy another at this price.

to be honest I like this external hard drive much better than the Western Digitals I think the case enclosure is more sturdy and built better and believe it or not some of the higher terabyte drives actually have EXOS Enterprise drives in them I have a 16 TB that is confirmed to have this way better drive. I'm not sure about the 12 terabyte but I have ran this drive non-stop 24/7 for 2 weeks transferring data and worked perfectly no issues.

Buyers should be aware that on Linux this is not a 12TB drive but rather a 10.91TB drive.

Remember that hard drive manufacturers use decimal (base 10) units:

1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes

But computers use binary (base 2) units:  1 TiB = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes

So 12 TB (decimal) = about 10.91 TiB (binary)

Then the OS (especially Windows) usually reports storage in binary but labels it as TB, making it look like you're “missing” space. But, you're not. I wish manufacturers would use the binary, actually useable, disk space in their advertising.

Also: a bit of space goes to:
File system overhead (e.g., partition tables, formatting)
System files or metadata (if it's a pre-configured external drive)

So yeah, it's normal — your “12TB” drive showing around 10.x TB is expected and not a defect.

This drive is what I needed to work at home. I would like to split my work from my personal life and work life.

It works for what I needed for my personal life.

Supposedly purchased a new one but ended up getting one that not only doesn't work, but with a warranty that expired a year ago. I suspect it was used and now I'm busy scrubbing my computer out of paranoia of whatever malware that may or may not have been uploaded onto my computer.

BUYER BEWARE!!  DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT.  It lasted only 3 days before it quit working.  It is a total waste of money.  Plus I lost a lot of data that had been transferred to the unit.
