Awesome system! Brings back great memories.

As a young kid I definitely remember when the Super NES came out. It was at one of my friend's birthday back in 1991 when he got the Super NES, along with Super Mario World as his birthday gift from his parents. The box was immediately opened with the nicely-designed console soon to be setup. We each took our turns to play Mario World, and there I thought it was cool!

I loved the graphics, the game played nicely, and I was going to slip that Idea to my folks for my upcoming birthday present. I liked playing the new Mario game, keeping up my smile and just saying: Okay! This is the new Super Mario game.

Then I learned that a few more of my friends had gotten their Super NES, making me feel slightly envious, but actually knowing that I didn't have the need for one.

But one day, It was not until I went to one of my cousin's house that I saw he had a Sega Genesis. I had heard many times about Sega, seeing the TV commercials, printed publicity, and especially Sonic the Hedgehog.

My cousin told me that he had got his Sega Genesis, with the first game of Sonic the Hedgehog included in the box, for his birthday. He offered me to give it a try. That was when I first played Sonic. Boy, what a blast! Not only I liked playing the game. I loved it! The character, the speed and the colorful graphics made me an immediate fan of the Sega Genesis.

Unfortunately, I never got one back then. But I played Sega with my cousin every time I went to his house, mainly on Sundays when we went to visit my Italian grandparents. The good old days. Good old blasting fun!

I'm one of those guys who had missed out on getting an NES Classic, which was my early childhood fun for having the original NES as my first game console. Then I wasn't so eager of getting an SNES Classic. Once again, the darn system was sold out in every store, including online. And just like the NES Classic Mini, there was absolutely no way that I would pay anywhere above the actual, mentioned retail price.

I had heard of the cheaper AtGames version of the Sega Genesis with an A/V connection, seeing so many negative reviews. But when I heard that AtGames was to be releasing the Sega Genesis Flashback HD, I suddenly had higher hopes and decided to give it a try. Astoundingly, I did not get disappointed. The system runs very good, bringing me back joyful memories for playing the games just like I first played them.

Here are the facts about the AtGames Sega Genesis Flashback HD:

PROS:

- (2) High quality wireless controllers (yes, this is the wireless controllers era! Sorry Nintendo!)

- HDMI (nice cool HD)

- Nice clean menu (this is what I prefer, nice and simple instead of numerous flashy gimmicks)

- Able to plug in original Sega Genesis controllers

- Able to play old Sega Genesis game cartridges besides all the games already included

- Packed with 66 great original Sega games (with 19 bonus games from AtGames), instead of only 21 games, including the lame and over-hyped gimmick of Star Fox 2

- Same price as the SNES Classic, and you get more for your bargain vs. that other gray console (black is sexy)

- Reset button is directly on gamepad.

- Great hardware!

- And much more!

For my personal opinion, I think it is a really nice gaming system.

Astoundingly, this is a very descent system from AtGames. I was surprised myself to see how good it was! Unless you really hate Sega games, there is more to enjoy from this system than Nintendo's two retro consoles.

Once again, Sega does what Nintendon't.

Simple as that!

Bought this for my husband for Father's Day and he and my son love playing it!

Great system

I feel that At Games just tried to jump on the bandwagon n success of Nintendo's Classic editions. But this is still the same emulator as before. The controller is much more responsive this time around which is great. Also it has an HDMI connection for easy connection n play on HD TVs. Read the game list carefully, some of the games on the box can be deceptive. They don't actually come preloaded but you can play the original Sega cartridges on this. Overall not a bad buy at all especially if you're a sega fan and even more so if you still happen to have some cartridges lying around.

Fun but basically the same as old one.

Very nastalgic reminds me of the sega model 1 that I had 25 years ego. Also love that each game has like 10 save slots, the controllers work perfect I lay in bed while I play with no difficulties and overall it's just a good system very happy with my purchase. Sometimes when I don't feel like playing it I just look at it and want to kiss it.

Waste of money

Great concept, kind of poor execution. I had a lot of fun with my Genesis system nearly 30 years ago, and I was a bit nostalgic so I bought this. The price is ok, and the hdmi and wireless controllers are a nice touch. But some of the games they tout actually need the original cartridges if you want to play them. Plus some of the preloaded games freeze up too often. Honestly, youâre better off buying a used PS3 and used games for just a little more $. Mortal Kombat and Sonic (and most of the other games on the Sega) are available and cheap for the PS3, plus you get a Blu ray player and can surf the internet on the Sony.

Sega Genesis Flashback Review

This is an okay system if you have a lot of the original cartridges. If you bought this for the stock games you might be disappointed as some of them freeze and the selection of games, while hosting some classics (Shining  Force, Fantasy Star -wich both freeze on my system),feature a lot of filler. Additionally the graphics are not what I would expect for something with HDMI capabilities; and while the wireless controllers are nice with some welcome features, they're quite small and require a micro screwdriver to access the batteries.

As I have a variety of cartridges which it plays without issue I'm content with this machine, however, were that not the case I would be returning it and waiting until the bugs were fixed. Given the fact part of this units appeal is on the games it hosts and the length of times that has lapsed since it's release with (to my limited  knowledge) no apparent fixes I'm giving this a 1 star rating. Do better.

I bought mine and it froze up, exchanged it for another one because I grew up with Sega System and that one also froze. I think AT Games cheapened out on doing the system right.
