I had been putting off this type of purchase for too long. When I came across the ad at a great price, I acted. Actually, I was unaware of how much it would hold; so I was surprised when I could not only put in business envelopes, but also 9x12. It even has room for some mementos.

The real surprise was learning that if it is in a fire, it will seal itself and have to be pried open: and Sentry will send you a new one. Cannot get better than that.

It is rather heavy, but manageable. Probably not a good idea to put it on an upper floor if you need to carry other items in a hurry. I think it is one of the best on the market for important documents.

I love this box! surprizingly a tiny bit heavy but perfect. i got it initially to lock the tablets up because kids were seeking in during school nights to steel em and ended up up all night and sleeping in class. not anymore. It can fit 3 large tablets! and i can put drink pouches in it to so they wont bring em to school and get into trouble.

Perfect for what i was looking for

It's sturdy but lighter than I imagined... which is good -easy for me to pick up. I'm 72 and can't lift heavy weights. It is a bit smaller inside than I thought. So be careful about what you need to place in it.

I bought the sentrysafe 1200 fire safe for the purpose of keeping my valuables safe, so far so good! it hasn't been around any fires but I'm sure if it were it would hold up pretty well!

It works!!

Adequate for my needs for document storage.  A feature I would like to see is the ability to securely latch the chest and preserve fire resistance without needing to lock it.  That way a thief could open the chest, see there was nothing to steal and not take it away to open elsewhere.

This  safe box was much heavier than I thought it would be.  I expected a lighter box.

I probably would not have purchased this particular safe box had I visited the store instead of ordering online.

The service and the shipping was great.
I would recommend this box for people that want to store cash, jewelry, etc.
I kept it anyway and found a use for it.

Heavy safe box!

I got the safe to store important documents I dont want my dogs to get a hold of and destroy. I ordered it to be delivered to the store, my nearest Wal-Mart. It arrived ahead of schedule which was great. I opened it up and it only stores small items like passports and keys. Not bad if you don't mind folding your important docs. Cant say much about the ruggedness of the product, I hope to never have to rate it on its fire resistance. I am hopeful it will hold up to the manufacturers specs.

good product for small items

I ordered this safe for my important papers and related items, but when it arrived, it was damaged. I also didn't like the design of it as it seemed a bit insecure. I would have returned it anyway. So I ordered a First Alert with the front secure lock, push button open, with a double secure lock, and it is excellent. The First Alert is on Walmart website too. I would go with that one if I were you.

Exchanged it

So the box itself is made superbly…it's tough and fireproof..however it's not moisture-proof(so they say to store items in a plastic bag).. and there are minimal things that are actually suggested to store in there surprisingly…but quite a few things they suggest to NOT store …at first glance it looks huge not to mention it is extremely heavy… but upon further inspection it's big enough to store very little…even if you were just storing paperwork it wouldn't hold that many papers in fact a normal sheet of paper is too wide to fit so would have to be folded up….one of my keys are hard to get into the hole but the other one works fine so not the biggest issue..there isn't really any way to fasten it to anything so someone could just grab it and go….probably would have returned it but it was a gift….

Fireproof..but is it worth it…

Having read the manual, I don't know anymore if I should use it to store my passport and hard drive. It says there that will be moisture inside that could be damaging. That defeats the purpose. I bought the safe to protect my important items. So yes, it will protect them from fire but ruin them with moisture? So weird. Also, a white chalky substance keeps falling out of the lid. That will ruin my things too. Finally, when it's locked, there's a little give when I pull on the lid. Why??? :(
