Easy to install—takes only a few minutes. Don't waste money going to a garage; this is something you can easily do yourself in about 5 minutes.
There are YouTube videos if you want to watch one look for Hood or tailgate lift Volvo model and year. It's very simple. Remove the metal clips from the top and bottom of the old lift using a flat-head screwdriver and long-nose pliers. Pull the top off first, then the bottom comes out easily.
Clean the ball studs on the car and grease them well before installing the new lifts. Make sure the lift is oriented correctly (larger metal end facing up), then snap the top on, followed by the bottom. Repeat on the other side.
I did this in -14°C with snow on the tailgate, so I had to push the door up slightly to align the lift—but once one side was done, it held the door up and made the second side even easier. Now it works like new.
Well worth doing it yourself. I had to do my  front hood lifts as well and it took the same time. It does help if you have someone hold the door or hood up.  But a piece of wood works as well. Anyone can do this.
