I do like this fishing pole and it works great. However, with younger kids I especially suggest that u put it out of reach when not using. My daughter tangled it around itself bc the rubbed fish with it made it seem toy like.

This worked out great for the reason behind my purchase. The price was perfect, too. I bought it as a Christmas gift for the cat so we can cast her toys across the room. So far she is loving her gift. :-)

Disclaimer: I got this fishing pole free to use and provide my experiences.

Pros: worked really well
Cons: should have come with some hooks and floats.

Getting ready for our annual camping trip to the Cloverdale, CA KOA campground where there is a pond, my 8 year-old daughter asks me to get her a fishing pole so she can try some fishing. Coincidentally, a message went out our internal SPAM email announcements that there were "Frozen fishing poles" available for use and review. How timely.

I'm not sure I would call this a "kit" since it only comes with the rod, reel, line, and casting plug but it worked pretty well. After a few practice casts with the plug, I borrowed a hook and float from this fishing kit which I bought from Walmart (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Shakespeare-Complete-Spin-Fishing-Kit/16794778), hooked a worm onto it, and set my daughter off to fish. After catching a few tufts of algae and weeds, she got a bite in less than 10 minutes of fishing. She was so excited. After insisting on hooking the next worm herself, she catches her next fish 5 minutes later. The pole and reel worked flawlessly with only the usual snagged and tangled line to deal with (which is expected with kids and fishing).

At $13 for the kit, it would be well worth the money to see the smile on a successful fisherman's face. Only thing I would add to the "kit" would be some tackle since buying that separately is a chore.

Got my daughter hooked on fishing!

I bought the frozen fishing pole for my 3yr old daughter. We practiced casting around the house with the provided casting plug during the cold months. She got pretty good at it.
I have taken her to the lake several times fishing with it and she has caught several large brim and small catfish.......last weekend she actually caught a smallmouth bass. I thought the light line and small outfit would break but the drag worked and she was able to land the fish. She was extremely proud and so was I!

Great product and would highly recommend to anyone with small children.

Excellent Kids fishing pole

We have a small Craig Cat (catamarand) just big enough for four people.  We took the two poles out on the lagoon Friday night for catch and release.  We had lots of bites and released 14 bay bass.  Lots of fun in two hours and the poles were just the right size.

Light, strong cute

I purchased this for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter as a "teaching" pole.  The price was right and she was able to operate it with no problem.

Shakespeare Beginner's Fishing Starter Kit

It was broken when I received it, plain and simple, the push button did not work and the line was used. And it was clear that someone else had used it before and they must've returned it because it either broke while they were trying to use it or it came broken and were trying like me to fix it and make it work.  I've been to 3 stores looking for this exact rod for my 5 year old and every time there was something missing on the package or it was non operational.  I'm sure if there was one that was in working order it might work, but from what I've seen the quality is poor and unlikely to last.  Ended up purchasing a larger kids fishing pole from a different brand for my daughter.

Frozen up...not the kind of Frozen I'd hope for

I bought this abt a month ago for my 4 year old. She can cast it like a pro and absolutely loved it until the string broke. Don't worry momma to the restringing rescue but nope the plastic screw spins and won't open so no restringing, no momma to the rescue and no happy little girl happened

I bought this yesterday for my daughter's birthday so we could I fishing today. Today she ended up accidentally reeling the line into the reel. I was going I try to fix it, but it has a little screw looking thing keeping the top on, and try as I might that sucker will not unscrew..so, looks like we won't be going fishing, which was something she was really looking forward to.

One disappointed little girl

We bought this for our three year old daughter. The first fishing trip we took she caught one good size brim on it. Once we took the fish off the hook and went to cast out again we noticed it was locked up. It will not cast or reel in now. It is broken after catching one fish. She was so disappointed and I was too. So much for a fun Fishing with Father's day for my sweet girl!

So disappointing!
