I bought this fishing pole for my grandson. Its the perfect pole for a 1st time young fisherman.

I usually buy a couple of these beginner rods to keep on my boat.  When a youngster visits our dock and gets excited seeing the blue gills and perch I offer 
them a rod and show them how to use it.  Hopefully I've encouraged a life long passion.

Like so many of the reviews on here, I too was having the same issue removing the plastic screw. Here's my workaround... After 10 minutes of trying to undo the screw unsuccessfully, I looked on this website and noticed that was the number one complaint about this rod. So I decided to find a work around. 

So here's how I removed the screw. 
1) Take a small piece of fishing line (10-12" should be enough). 
2) Start with the middle of the line and put it under the head of the plastic screw. 
3) Wrap it around the screw 3-4 times in a counter clockwise direction. 
4) Hold both ends 3-4" from the head of the screw. Apply light upward pressure with one hand,  while turning the screw counter clockwise with a flat head screw driver. 

This upward pressure should be enough to help the plastic screw get enough "bite" and it should turn out easily. 

After re-spooling the line, or fishing out the end you need, replace the cap and re-insert the screw. Mine went in just fine and snugged up pretty easily.

Screw removal - SOLVED

The rod is nice and sturdy but the reel failed it stopped working line kept getting caught and popping off. Not good

Unsatisfactory

We had been looking forward to fishing for some time. I agreed to the Spiderman fishing gear. After we figured out how to cast, our first successful cast revealed that the line was not attatched to the reel. No line. Useless pole. Sobbing 5 year old.
