I went retro with my shaving about 10 years ago.  There's not a lot of difference in the experience and the result between the way my Dad shaved and the throwaway plastic razors, except for Shark blades which are far smoother and definitely give a better result.  Each blade is lasting me a month of perfect shaving, and could be stretched into 2 months if wanted to.  I have tried 3 or 4 other brands, and it seems the more expensive they were, the more disappointing they were.
