I used to have a Riccar vacuum cleaner. It used paper bags and had HEPA filtration. Heavy to use and after a few uses, it would stink, like burning cheese. Something with the drive belts wearing away. Replaced them twice in 4 years, which I thought was excessive. I did extensive research on vacuum cleaners and Shark got good ratings from Consumer Reports magazine. So, my decision was to look closely at Shark. Bought a Lift-Away model so that I could use it as an upright and as a cannister. The vacuum cleaner is very lightweight and can be lifted easily. I used it on carpeting that had been vacuumed just a day before and I was stunned at how much dust/dirt/pet hair it picked up. Removing the dust pod was easy and there is a drop door in the bottom of the pod. Once you use this vacuum cleaner, the pod will likely remain dirty for the duration of your ownership. I think it could be washed out, but would need a long time to dry due to the gaskets on the pod drop door. My biggest concern about the vacuum cleaner is the back wheels. The wheel base is too short and when the unit is swiveled, it can be a bit top heavy, resulting on one wheel coming off the carpet and the unit being off balance. The cleaner head is a bit small too, requiring more vacuum time to get my house done. Using the cannister off the unit, I was able to effectively vacuum carpeted steps. Now the bigger test will be whether this vacuum will emit foul odors due to drive belts or other internal parts.

We had a Shark Rotator Professional liftaway for many years and loved it. The hose cracked so we bought the Navigator liftaway. It's not as sturdy as the Rotator and the hose is very short. In fact when I try to use the accessories, I always tip the unit over because the hose is so short. We were able to buy a replacement hose for the old one and prefer to use that. The Navigator might be good for a dorm or apartment but not for regular use.

Not as good as the older ones

I found the vacuum cleaner to be unstable when used due to poor design with the wheel base much narrower than the main vacuum pump. Also the hose is not durable and tears after sometime when removed regularly to vacuum under beds n sofas.

Unstable vacuum cleaner

I bought this about a month ago because my old Shark Vacuum was just about 10 years old and I just felt it was time to replace it (my son said I was crazy and he took it). The new one is just not as well made as the old one and the sucking power is not as good.

I prefer the old one

I had a shark before I got this one because it said it was self-cleaning. I've had it for less than a month and already had to clean the roll. It's also much heavier than my old one and clunky.

I thought I was getting the product that had the built in roller cleaner. I have a pet with long fur and the first time I used the vac I had a tough time cleaning the roller. I also felt the product was very heavy for me.
Please advise how I can return My Shark. I'm not sure if I will purchase another one at this time.

disappointed

Bought this as a replacement vacuum and I wish I would have bought a different style for sure. I have mostly hardwood floors and tile, this vacuum just doesn't seem to do near as good of a job as my previous Shark vacuum did. I'm not impressed with it, but guess I'm stuck with it so I will make due.

Definitely not my favorite vacuum

we purchased this vacuum because we decided to give our previous shark to my mother in law. Went with this one because of the price and we have loved every shark we have had. Not this one the suction wasn't the greatest and the brush bar would stop on the rug if you went the wrong way on it. We replaced it with the same one we had previously and will be sending this one back. The new one works perfect just like the old one, we love it.!!!!

NOT GOOD

Shark is the best vacuum I've ever owned! I returned the navigator and got the Vertex duo clean. I had a duo clean before and ordered the navigator by mistake. The company let me return the navigator, and even sent me a label, for the return, so they paid for the return. This is a great company to deal with.

I had my previous shark for 8 years  loved it. In fact recommended it to many. Am disappointed in this one. A piece already fell off. Which I plan to  call about. I thought it would  be the same size it wasn't. Another disappointment. It does not have the suction of my old one.
