I bought this lens for wildlife photography to use with a Nikon APS-C DSLR, so I get an effective 900 mm focal length.  No problem handholding it.  Focus speed is very acceptable with high percentage of keepers.  I have also bought a Kenko 1.4X tele-converter but have not tried that out yet.  Just bought a Sigma dock to upgrade the lens firmware.

Walmart is the only vendor I have found selling the lens without a kit and offering a discount.

The lens was shipped via UPS Ground, so took a week to get it.  Not a big deal.

Good buy

I got this lens to help take pictures for birding. The zoom on the lens is better than my 300 mm and I can take pictures of birds that are farther out on lakes. However, the lens is heavier and requires a steady hand. It would probably be easier to use with a tripod. Also, the autofocus is much slower, so it is not the best at taking pictures of birds in flight.
