I purchased one of these cookers, and the rice is always fluffy and perfect. The way the lid fits, the cooker heats the water, creating steam and the rice is steamed so yes it is a steamer. I have also cooked vegetables in here, adding a small amount of water and they are steamed. If you buy a 'steamer' you still have to add water to create steam. So I disagree with the other comment questioning if this is a steamer, of course it is.

This made perfect rice. I used American Easy Cook and I made enough for 2 people. I had to add a little more water (I had just halved the rice and water amounts that were given for 4 portions, but next time I will add 10% more water at the outset).
The rice takes a bit longer to cook than on in a pan on the hob, but the real advantage of this cooker is that I just put the rice and water into the cooker, bunged it in the microwave, set the time then forgot about it! No pan boiling over on the hob because I didn't get to it in time when the water boiled, no messy pan at the end. A big WIN WIN for me!

I use this microwave rice cooker every time I cook rice as it does what it says on the box and gives you perfectly cooked rice every time.
Though I do think the directions regarding rice quantity to water etc is rather vague and could be improved. ( I am using the directions for a previous rice cooker I bough years ago and that works really well)

Does what it says on the box

Purchased red kitchen twist n chop, red rice steamer and red noodle pot. All are lovely and very useful. Twist n chop chops up veg superbly, rice steamer I used to cook pasta and it worked great. I've yet to try noodle steamer but feel sure it will be great!

Red kitchen utensils

Been cooking rice in the microwave for years and always had trouble with it splashing all over through the holes in the cling film. Bought this product to try and stop this. Wish I had found it years ago. Its perfect. Pop the rice and water in the bowl put the splash guard in and pop the lid on and clips down. Perfect rice in minutes and keep all the flavour in the rice instead of it all boiling away in the water. Would definitely recommend this product.

Best buy ever!!

Wish I'd bought one before. Much better than using a bowl and cling film and so easy. No need for a seperate electric machine. It may look small but it takes enough for 4 really huge portions and some left over

So easy

Cooks rice easily and perfectly, no burnt on bits at the bottom. Cheaper, lighter and more space friendly than a standalone rice cooker appliance, but makes rice just as good!

Excellent product

So easy to cook in this no boiling. Put 2 cups  of rice to 3 cups of water 15 mins later rice is cooked and fluffy. 1 cup 12 mins less water. Comes out perfect every time.

Makes best rice ever

I bought this item for my son who works away from home and needs to cook rice himself. I bought the steamer assuming it would be easy to use, however there are no measurements marked on the bowl (which is what I was expecting) to make it easy to measure the rice and water levels. Only a small pamphlet is included telling you how much rice and how much water to use and for someone who is learning to cook for himself, not helpful at all. Don't get me wrong, the steamer is of great quality and a good size but the design of the steamer needs to be modified to include markings on the inside so a novice can understand. I shouldn't have to get out my measuring cups/weighing scales to do this!

Looks impressive but disappointing

I love Sistema products, and I saw a microwave rice maker at the Denby factory cook shop the other day and thought I must get me one of those to help make light fluffy rice.

The first time I used it I did brown rice, and it doesn't recommend that. It takes longer and therefore wasn't cooked properly and I had to cook it some more.

The second time I used it I did Basmati rice. The instructions give a grams of rice measurement, but then gives a 500-600ml water and an 8-12 minutes cooking - so are somewhat vague. It also boiled over and messed the microwave up. Would have been easier on the hob! It took 8.5 minutes in the microwave and then you leave it for 5 minutes to stand - so it would have been about the same time on the hob too. And it was a bit sticky and not the light fluffy rice I was hoping for.

It's well made, and the spoon is useful, but it seems a bit of a waste of time to me at the moment. It frees up the hob if you're short of rings, but I think this is a bit of a gimmick.

It was better value from Asda than I'd seen elsewhere and more competitively priced than alternatives. Love Sistema, but not sure this is as useful as I had hoped for.

Not the usual Sistema genius...

I thought I might be doing it wrong but I've checked with the sistema website and this product really isn't a steamer. It's a rice cooker. You put the rice and the water in the bottom together so there's no steam involved!

Is it really a steamer?
