I bought this 18 March 2021 and I don't regret it. The quality of picture and equipment is very good. it can be a little slow reacting to commands but doesn't lockup like some electronics. It was quite easy to setup.

I have had this Sony Ultra HD player for almost a year now.  I had to do very little in terms of changing the default setup.  My first test was the Greatest Showman 4K Disc.  Amazing picture and sound quality coupled with my TCL 6 Series TV.  The Dolby Vision setting to tends to look a little darker but is still pristine.  I also enjoy the interface of the included apps for Pandora, Slacker, and Crackle.  The system is frequently updated.  I am very pleased with this unit!

Excellent quality!

I needed something to replace the old BlueRay DVD Players. I selected a Sony this time, and it has not let me down yet. I am able to play 4k, BlueRay, and regular DVDs without having any issues.

I purchased one for the living room and my master bedroom and the price was great.

Staying Current

I bought this two weeks ago and set it up expecting to update the firmware for Dolby Vision but It was already uploaded.I had to follow the instructions to set it up to get the correct sound from my Onkyo Amp i.e. Disable the Arc to the Tv .This then enables the tv to show HDR or D.V .So no need to go out and buy a new amp just remember to use both hdmi inputs on the back if you are using an Amplifiler for home cinema surround sound. For the money it is the best on the market at the moment.

Dolby Vision straight out of the box!

Audio and video from VERY LIMITED STREAMING CONTENT, Blu-ray Disc (BD) and Ultra HD BD is very good. Don't plan on using this as your only streaming device and/or hook it up to a smart tv because number of apps available on UBP-X700 is VERY LIMITED. Please see photo "All Apps" available and yes I did software update on UBP-X700  before I took this picture on 11/06/2024.

Great video/audio BUT LIMITED STREAMING CONTENT

When I decided to get this player, I had heard about issues such as freezing up, skipping, and screen blackouts. The day I purchased this unit, I did experience the 1-2 second screen blackouts and was concerned that I was going to have to exchange it. I checked the settings to make sure it had the latest software update, which it did, so I decided to do a factory reset and ever since, the blackout issue has disappeared...whew! I have played a number of Blu-Rays and DVD's (some I own and some rented) with no issues. I have yet to play a 4K disc (can't wait) so I'm hoping there will be no issues there either. The up conversion of the Blu-Ray and even regular DVD discs on this player is very good. I was concerned that DVD's might not look so good but they in fact do. It also passes all the current audio codecs, Dolby Atmos, DD+, DTS-X, etc. with ease through my Denon AVR.  The one thing I wish this player had, which my older SONY Blu-Ray player has, is the remaining time. I'll explain. The X700 shows the length of the movie and how much of it has played. My older SONY shows how much time the movie has played and next to it, the time remaining in the movie and I liked that feature. It was quite handy at times. I use the older remote because one, it's larger and two, it has a 10 second rewind button and 15 second advance button that the X700 remote does not have. It would be nice if it was possible to add the remaining movie time in the display with a software update but that probably won't happen. I have all the equipment I need for 4K disc playback and I'm looking forward to the experience. Overall, I really like this unit.

Good Player

I was given this player for Christmas 2018. It works well, looks good, sounds good, fits well under my TiVO and on top of my stand, and is super simple to hook up. The only thing I'm bummed about is the volume control on the remote does not work.

Good looking, compact unit

Bought this a few weeks ago with the updated firmware that supports Dolby Vision. 
Overall great image quality. The set is a bit basic in bulid and much smaller that the UBP-X800 with no digital display or screen on the set.

However one huge advatange is that with a firmware update it supports Dolby Vision. This is, however SEVERELY hampered - unfortunately, the unit does not auto-switch when you play a Dolby Vision disc which means that a) the switching has to be done manually from the menu and b) if you don't know a disc has Dolby Vision and you don't therefore activate it in the menu, you miss out on the benefits (it can be quite difficult to see on Blu Ray discs whether a Dolby Vision signal is included)

Sony - this could be an excellent product... please come up with a firmware update that auto-switches Dolby Vision on when it detects a Dolby Vision signal!!

Great picture quality but Dolby Vision needs work!

I bought the UBP-X700 because my LG UBK-80 suddenly stopped playing region code 2 discs - not so Lucky Goldstar.  LG support told me it was a software error but would have to send it in for repair - maybe they are not familiar with firmware.  The UBP-X700 has a good selection of apps (the LG has none) and connectivity options.

Does what's written on the box

I've had this player for some time and when it comes to playing new 4K disc it freezes during playback. Very frustrating!
