I love this desk. It's solid and sturdy, and I like that the largest drawer is actually a drawer rather than a keyboard tray. The storage behind the door is large enough for a travel size file case, and more, and has an adjustable shelf. I was able to assemble most of the desk alone, but I did need an extra person in a couple steps, ie putting on the top. Word to the wise...have someone hold up the sides of the drawers as you are assembling them. (You attach each side to the front with joiners and screws, then slide in the bottom and put on the back.) I was just letting one side of the drawer stand there while I got the other side going, and the first side fell over, splitting out the holes where the joiners go in. I was able to repair it with some glue, but it would have been a better choice for me to just have someone hold the first side up. That's what I did on the second drawer! All in all, an excellent buy for the money, and lots of storage.

Excellent choice; lots of storage; assemble wisely

My 14-yr-old finds this desk perfect for her laptop, homework, and storage needs. The box was damaged during shipping. However, the instruction guide provided a phone number and part numbers making it very simple to have the damage items replaced. The manufacturer's customer service was excellent and shipped the two damaged items promptly.

Great value - Functional desk with storage.

For the price, this desk is much better than expected. I ordered for my 9 year old grand daughter's birthday, thinking this would be a good starter desk.  It's much sturdier than and I think she would actually be able to use this into high school!  The directions weren't too bad. It would have helped if all the little sacks of bolts etc were numbered as they are in the directions, however, there's pictures so it was easy enough to figure out what went where.  If you're looking for a nice sturdy, inexpensive desk, I would recommend this one.

Better than expected

I love this desk! It's very sleek & clean. It has compartments to fit my things & it goes perfect with my room! :) I got this in black. It was kind of hard putting it together but it was worth it :)

Great office desk! :)

I was a bit nervous about it coming broken or missing pieces as most reviews said, but it came perfect nothing broken or missing. It took about 2 hours since I did it by myself. I'm so happy with my purchase!

I love it.

Had I not already purchased other inexpensive furniture that you build yourself I may have not noted the difficulty of building this desk. In comparison to the other desk we bought from another vendor - this one was very challenging. Directions were vague and the drawers in particular were very difficult to put together. It looks nice now that it's done and my daughter is very happy. Wouldn't purchase from this company again, knowing there are better options out there.

student desk

Awesome desk, easy to assemble, but would have gone a little faster if South Shore had labeled each piece instead of just showing pictures of them. Nice big main drawer, does not have slide tray for keyboard but I knew that when I ordered. Lots of room on top, so hopefully I will not miss the keyboard tray. Box was not damaged at all when I picked it up, but I was disappointed to find at the completion of assembly there were 4 marks on the desk top that are very noticeable. They had to be there when the item was packaged, disappointing, but not worth the time and trouble to disassemble and return. All in all seems like a sturdy, pretty piece of furniture.

Very Nice Desk

First, let me say that the desk is now WAAAYYY more expensive than when I bought it. If I had paid the current price, I'd be really upset with the quality. That being said, it was pretty easy to assemble. I was slightly annoyed that the back isn't finished but I do plan on having it against a wall so it isn't a huge deal. my issue is that the tracks don't align perfectly for the drawers so you basically have to yank them open. I don't have any problems with the cabinet door like a few others mentioned, though.

Not bad for the price I paid

I've bought furniture at Walmart in the past, and have always found the quality very good for the price. Not the case with this desk. It looks great from the front. The size is perfect for me as I was looking for a bigger desk at an affordable price and from the pictures it looks really nice. I figured it would have finished wood on the back side too, although specifications did not state that. I was surprised to find that it's not even sanded, which stinks if you're planning to have your desk facing the room as I was. And that nice wood finish..... it's paper thin. I've had it a week and it chips at the slightest little thing. One of the chips is from something as simple as my legs knocking it as I push my chair out. Really!! At $117 I should be able to do that every day without it chipping.

The main drawer in the middle of the desk is not finished underneath either. In fact, it's not even sanded. (In my opinion, this is not acceptable in a desk). Only the upper side of the drawer was finished, so don't wear any decent pants if you're planning to sit at the desk for any length of time, as they're all going to be clicked, just as mine are.

All in all I am extremely disappointed in this purchase. The size is great, but I feel that the quality is very poor and was NOT what I was expecting.

Disapointing!

It arrived earlier than expected but it was hard to put together. The worst thing is that pieces don't match! The drawers (both) are not at all as they are shown int the promotional image. They do not meet the top of the desk which made the cabinet door not to fit (look at pictures). It is also hard to pull them out and back in, they fall. I will call to ask for a discount at least! I don't want to put this together again, so don't really want to receive a new one unless someone would come and take the old one away and build the new one.
