I bought the full size bed as a cheap and easy alternative to the traditional box spring, frame and mattress. I am a college student on a budget. The bed was a great price and I actually assembled it myself. My floors are tile so it was easy to just stand the boards up myself without someone holding it. HAVE IT MAILED TO YOUR HOUSE! This sucker was really heavy. I had help carrying it into my house. Putting it together is very tiring - definitely by myself. Even more exhausting if you follow the recommended hand screwing over a power screw driver. All in all, after about 2 good hours I built the bed and put my queen air mattress on top. I was going to order a memory foam mattress to put on top, but after finally off the floor, the air mattress didn't seem so bad. I actually bought a mattress topper and plan on using this air mattress for as long as I can. It's comfortable to me. I would prefer this method to any college student. This bed is stylish and goes well in my room.

I bought this platform bed basically because the price was very good, and it was all I could fit into my budget. I was pleased that it arrived several days before expected delivery date. I was also surprised that the box it came in, though heavy was not very big. But all the pieces were there. I don't recommend this bed for anyone who does not have the time or the patience to assemble it. Luckily, my husband and son worked together on this and were able to set the bed up in around an hour or so. They actually enjoyed doing this project and when they were finished. not only did I love how the bed looked, so did they. The mattress fits perfectly on it. You can have your comforter hang over the edges of the bed or tuck the comforter under the mattress so you can see the beautiful black trim of the bed, that is how I like it. It really is a beautiful bed and my son loves it. I am extremely happy with this purchase. I do not have anything negative to say about this bed. It's perfect.

Very beautiful bed and good quality for the price

The bed actually came ahead of the estimated ship time which was great. The box was VERY heavy and it took two adults to get it in the house. It was easy to unpack and was packed neatly and in easy order according to the assembly instructions. All of the pieces and parts were there and the holes lined up exactly when assembling. It was super easy to put together. It is very sturdy and does not move or make any noise at all. I am using with the 12 inch memory foam mattress and it is the perfect height. It gives great support to the mattress and much better than the box spring that it was originally on. The product is particle board with a paper layer over the top, which is what I expected for the price. If you are looking for a wonderful finished product then this probably isn't the type of thing you should purchase. If you are looking for good quality, solid construction and a utilitarian platform bed this is a great product.

Good quality for the price!

The platform bed is solid. It has held up over 400lbs of kids (everyone piling on) just fine. The bed doesn't move or squeak which makes for a solid night's sleep. We paired it with the Mainstays 8" Memory Foam Mattress, and we are absolutely pleased with it. It was easy enough to assemble with one person.

Good for the Price

Judging from all of the reviews I was not sure what to expect from this bed because the reviews were all over the place. What I can tell you is that when you first assemble this bed surface area of the particle board gives off a extremely harsh chemical smell. It was so bad that I ended up painting over it with a primer and a sealer which did make it more bearable. The overall quality of the bed is cheap. With the particle board it works as a bed frame for a adult but don't have your kids jump on it as it mike break the fragile planks. I do like the way it looks which is the main reason I bought it, but overall I would give it a 3 out of 5. The setup was extremely easy once you look at the instructions. As for the people who say they painted the wrong sides of the planks they are wrong, if you look closely its so that the headboard that would be pushed against the wall would not be visible while the inner board would be. It is heavy and requires 2 people to move the box but I was able to assemble the bed by myself. I would recommend using a power tools though as it makes the process faster. Lights are not included.

You get what you pay for.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So my problem with this platform bed is it too low on the floor so I had to buy a boxspring 9 inch to make me feel a high without that. It was hard for me to get off the bed so I would recommend a higher up boxspring matches, of course, but overall, I kept getting cut with the edges of the bed sharp. My husband had to shave it down with a sent on paper, but overall it's OK.

Upon receiving my item I noticed the bottom right corner of the box extremely damaged. I opened the box and laid out all the parts. The molding for the front of the bed was cracked and the wood split. I called South Shore and a new part was sent. 
Overall the wood is really thin and cheap.

You get what you paid for

Although the packaging was intact, the product was damaged upon opening the box. The large particle board section used to hold up the mattress was cracked, rendering the bed frame unusable because of structural integrity issues. I returned it. The frustrating part of this is that due to the weight of the box, each piece of the bed was carried upstairs separately and then carried back down again to return the damaged product to my no-so-local-to-me Walmart. I built my own DIY bed frame.

Interestingly, I received another (non-Walmart product) the same week where a fork lift had pierced the box, creating entry and exit wounds. I must be an unlucky consumer or maybe the large stores who ship freight should review best practices of their shipping partners. I'm not a satisfied customer, and it may not be Walmart's fault. I've observed here and other instances that best shipping practices do not meet expectations (no damage).

The large particle board section was damaged.

I hate this product. it was easier to put to gather than the other one that i wanted for the same price but the molding that goes around the edge i and my husband bump our legs on it every night and morning and has made tons of scars on our legs from the over hange. I hate it as well as he does. I wish i went for the one with the extra storage, at least that wouldn't have over hang,

HATE IT!!!

I'm not sure how/why there are so many glowing reviews for this product. The bed photographs well online but it's all cheap particle board and ill constructed.

It took forever to put together the base of the bed because the pre-drilled nail holes were drilled incorrectly and didn't match up. We finally drilled our own holes into it but now the flat base boards of the bed didn't line up so we can't put on the side "rail" things. The predrilled holes were on the wrong side of one of the boards too; the laquer part of the board had the holes instead of the backside of it. Yes, the bed is up now but good thing it's only a guest bed so it won't be used often.

If you buy this, be ready for a headache putting it together. Oh, also, the box it arrived in is extremely heavy. It took two of us to drag it in. Make sure you have a friend to help you at least move it in.

You will lose your mind putting this together
