I bought my first ez lap sharpening steel ten years ago and it is still going strong. Just by chance I saw that Walmart had the same model and at the infamous Walmart beats all prices reputation, picked up three more. I have used this steel for numerous tasks as I am a hunter, a knifemaker, knife collector, spearfisherman, all of which require sharp knives. The EZ lap has never let me down, ever. I plan on having one in my grave when I die and plan to use it in my next life, just in case.

if you're blade is as dull as a butter knife. you will need to start with a courser grain stone or diamond. But once you're blade has a defined edge, this is a great sharpener. It will sharpen from the heel, thru the edge, and all the way to the tip. When done sharpening with you're new Eze-Lap Diamond Sharpener, I recommend finding a finer grain diamond. I have an Eze-Lap that is close to 20 years old, and now it may not sharpen the way my new one does, but now makes a great honing tool.

Great Diamond Knife Sharpener

I bought one of these probably over 25 years ago for 14 or 15 bucks...still have it, still use it occasionally. The belt loop on the sheath is a little on the thin side, so I don't wear it on my belt very often, unless I'm walking without a day-pack. The diamond sharpening hone takes a few times to get accustomed to, as it grabs the blade when it's new, so if you use light force is better. When it wears in after several uses on larger blades it will be easier to use, and you can apply more force to the blade for faster sharpening. If your blade is straight, but dull, this will put a fine edge on it quickly. If the blade edge is rolled, this hone will straighten and sharpen simultaneously, if use properly. The diamonds become exposed more with each use, so it functions more efficiently as it ages. I have even used it to touch up my 30" jack-saw for firewood cutting, and a few serrated blades with large serrations. In a pinch, if the cutter pitch where close enough, you could use this hone to sharpen a chain saw. Female screw threads on both sides of the hone's collar allow the tube handle to attach in either direction securely and quickly. In my opinion, it's well worth the price for a compact sharpening tool which can be carried any where, is very durable brass construction (except the diamond hone, of course) so it's corrosion-free, and the hone stores inside the tube handle when not in use. No complaints here.

Excellent tool for daily carry or survival kit

Does a very good job sharpening my pocket and hunting knives. Well protected for keeping in pocket. Have given as small gifts to my boys and buddies.

Handy pocket sharpener.

I expected a diamond sharpener to put a better edge on my knives. It is good for axes,and edges like that.
