My son likes this pencil! He requested me to buy this for him because he heard that the Staedtler Noris is the European version of the Dixon Ticonderoga! As he tried to write with it, he noticed the difference. Traditionally, a wooden pencil gives you dark lines when you write hard, and light lines when you write gently, but the upcycled version felt a little different. Instead of a traditional smooth scratch, it has a slightly denser, almost waxy glide across the paper. The line darkness stays surprisingly consistent whether he presses down hard or writes with a light hand, which actually means less smudging and fewer broken tips. He also noticed that the upcycled material gives the pencil a bit more weight in his hand, making it feel sturdy and premium. But the sharpening is where you really notice a difference, though. Because it's made from extruded upcycled wood composite rather than standard raw cedar, it shaves down incredibly smooth and clean—no splintering, crumbling, or uneven wood collars like you get with cheap pencils. However, because the core is highly bonded, we found it's best not to sharpen it to a lethal needle-point, or the very tip might snap under heavy pressure. A slightly blunter point holds up beautifully! So far, If you are looking for that classic, scratchy wooden pencil feel, this might take a little getting used to. But if you want something durable, eco-friendly, and consistently smooth, it's a great buy. My son is really happy with his European import!
