Ease Of Installation

Sturdiness

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was time to update my gate spring because mine was old and no longer working properly. I liked this one because it is made by a company that has been around for over a century and because the glossy black finish would dress up my gate. It was easy to install with the 4 screws that are included. A great feature is that it can be adjusted to close at your desired speed. After installation, just adjust the spring tension by tightening the nut on top then install the stopper to prevent rotation. This spring should be installed on the side of the gate with the hinges so that it pushes the gate closed. It is not intended to be on the inside of the gate where it extends and pulls it closed. When installed properly it works perfectly. I'm happy to have my gate automatically closing again. This steel gate spring is heavy-duty, works great, and is sure to be long-lasting.

Perfect for my gate

Great Spring Action

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We added this spring to our backyard gate that the grand kids constantly left open allowing the dog to sneak out. Spring installation is straightforward and easy, allows for tension adjustment which we played with a little to get just right.  It works very well and I like the lower tension for a slower smoother close. The black finish goes well with hinges and latch we've just replaced.

Wish we'd added a spring years ago!

Better than expected

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I installed the Gate Spring on my second Redwood Fence Gate adjacent to my street curb.  The gate spring worked flawlessly when opening/closing the gate especially when I'm concerned it closes securely off the street level.  The installation was very easy to install and make the adjustments to allow for a safe closing and opening.  It is important to make tension adjustments when the gate is in the open position to allow for safe and accurate closing.  This will prevent any hard or fast slamming of the gate with young children.

I installed the gate spring on the outside versus the inside of the gate.  It was secured tightly and the mounting hardware held well through constant use.  I had no concerns the mounting hardware would become loose and come off the base.

The National Hardware Gate Spring is a very good product that will deliver you competent performance in ensuring your gate will open and close securely and safely.  I give this product a 4-STAR Rating.

So far it has been fairly simple to install and works well. I may add another just to help the gate close better. 
I've always liked the brand.
