I use about 5 other planes, can sharpen blades and rescued 2 planes by flattening soles and other mods. I am no expert but i use planes.
I like this plane because straight out of the box it was a well tuned plane and the blade sharpness matches my other blades (micro levels at 8000 grit). Second, it is an inch longer and heavier compared to my type 11 Stanley no 4. I was expecting kind of duplicate but the new Stanley feels to me more like 4 1/2.
The machining of the adjustable mouth, sole, sides is best I have seen. For instance when i tried sole flatness on 1200 paper the sole was flat including the movable mouth plate! Bravo Mexico.
The only modification I plan to do is to round a bit the perimeter of the sole, the perfect edge this plane has is a little bit too sharp.
The adjuster has about 1/2 of the play of my old Stanley but who cares. The lateral lock of the adjuster is a great idea and it actually works. I could do a micro adjustment of blade depth without disturbing lateral position.
So in conclusion here is a plane with two fantastic additions to # 4 plane that no other manufacturer has (adjustable mouth and lateral lock) manufactured to (Maine or Canada) boutique plane quality and sold for a very reasonable price. Absolute bargain.

Great Plane.  Adjustments are easy and precise.  The iron needed sharpening out of the box as expected, but the plane base is flat and the sides are square so no work needed there.  Once sharpened, I was able to create paper thin shavings in maple easily.  Highly recommended and a good value.

Great Plane

My search for the 12-136 popped up Walmart! Who... for tools? Nice tools? Walmart! Best price, store nearby, special pick-up desk by the front door, and the same packaging as purchased anywhere. Sweet.

Sweet!

This a solid and well made plane. All machined surfaces were flat and square. After initial honing, the tool produced marvelously thin and wispy shavings. I own several of the newer Sweetheart series planes and am aware that the fit and finish can vary from model to model and even within the same model, but the one I recieved was darn near perfect out if the box.

Works great

I just purchased this plane a few weeks ago, I own many vintage planes but I always wanted a brand new #4. I was so bummed out to find that the iron was not square also there is a slight cup on the center when I put the iron in my jig to hone the edge I noticed the center was not even being toched. So I ended up re-sharpening the iron with my diamond plates, its ok now but I should have sentbit back fir a new iron, Also the front mouth adjuster when I try to close it up so I can get ultra thin shavings the adjuster part does not line up with the sole, So Im going to have too flatten it. For the money this cost I expected better quality

#4 smoothing plane

Sole is not flat, not even close. This plane looks nice from a distance but upon further inspection I discovered the bottom is cupped nearly 0.030". I've already lapped the plane for hours trying to flatten it, finally gave up..it sits in the bottom of my tool box and collects dust. I should of sent it back but have already tried to repair it. I wouldn't gamble on another one, instead spend a bit more and get a Veritas or Lie Nielsen. kicking myself for being cheap.

Junk!

The soul of the plane was not close to true flat.  The front of the soul, directly below the hand grip was extruding more than 1/16" inch from the rest of the soul.  I should have returned the plane but instead spent hours lapping the soul.  The back of the soul was hollowed.  The blade was chipped, not ground to 25*, had no micro bevel, and was hollow.  This was a nightmare and complete waste of money.  It's terrible to see the Sweetheart line of tools going the way of the rest of Stanley products, cheap and poorly machined.  I tested the plane when it arrived just to check if Stanley Sweetheart products were designed this way.  The tool couldn't cut the thinnest shaving in line with the soft pine wood grain.  The soul of the plane gouged the wood.  Yikes.  What a beautiful plane to arrive in such terrible condition from the factory.

No QA-QC

I bought this plane because it has an adjustable mouth and I could then use it as a smoother with one blade and as a scrub with a cambered blade.  BUT no one makes these replacement blades.  the blade is only 5" long so no std blade will fit.
