I really like my new Starfrit glass kettle, it heats up quickly and it's much more quiet than my last electric kettle.  This kettle features extra settings for a variety of water temperatures from warm to 190 degrees.  Over the years I've found that certain tea such as Earl Grey and herbal teas taste better when brewed with water that's at a slightly lower temperature.  It has a nice clean look and at night the water sparkles with the blue light glowing to show the kettle is turned on.

Loving my new glass kettle...

Pleasantly surprised with the performance of this kettle. Fast boiling, can also retain the heat for hours, lightweight as well. Would definitely recommend.

I  enjoy it. I enjoy the temperature features, and the colors. Works well and heat teh water very fast (faster than my previous kettle)

Good tea kettle

Bought this as a gift for my sister and initially she had some issues with getting it to just boil vs the set temps, but eventually figured it out. It's a good size and works well. Love that it's cordless and has the automatic shut-off. Great deal for 29.99.

Great for the price

First off let me note that this review is for both other consumers and for the manufacturer, Starfrit. My intention is to help us consumers make the best decision for a purchase and to help the manufacturer get to that goal. The Starfrit Variable Temperature Glass Kettle is a good value product for the price, in my opinion. As an aside for Starfrit, might I suggest re-thinking the product name. The Variable Temperature Glass Kettle as a name rolls off the tongue like marbles in grease - how about Advanced Glass Kettle? Just a free marketing suggestion.
  
THE GOOD: The overall design is very impressive. Small footprint, clean lines and intuitive controls. The mixture of glass carafe (especially with the mounting health issues associated with plastics and high heat environments), variable temperature capability (including a smart temperature hold - handy when preparing meals), intelligent light displays (almost avoiding those annoying appliance beeps you can't hear) and very clean connection base that even includes power cord management. It is compact for the capacity (1.7 L) and very rapid boil ( consistently under 5 minutes from cool to full boil).
THE BAD:  The lid could use a re-design. It functions well with quick pop up button for filling, but it does not pop-up out of the way. It only opens to approximately 80 degrees and makes both filling and cleaning a bit of a chore as it gets in the way, thus encouraging damage. It could be manufactured to open further, but a full removal would be much better. This hinged design is overly complex and provides multiple points of failure from the hinge  and button release components. Starfrit, you could save money in design and we would all benefit from improved reliability and convenience. The KIS principle (Keep It Simple) is the best defense against Murphy's Law! A minor issue is the volume labels on the glass carafe. They are only found on one side of the glass carafe. Slightly irritating when filling as these labels are not visible dependent on how one holds the unit during filling. As I stated, a minor inconvenience, but also a minor fix to improve functionality. The handle is well sized and comfortable to hold and it houses the touch controls on the top.  Nice touch, but it worries me that it represents another potential for failure from water emersion during cleaning. Might I suggest the controls be on the base unit to avoid this as a potential issue. One issue in the supplied manual ( I am one of those sad people who actually read the MANUAL!) On page 6 (English section) the bottom of the page refers to making sure to turn off the POWER BASE unit when not in use. How? The manual states in the first section titled "Important Safeguards", that the unit be unplugged when not in use. I assume this to be the answer, though I suspect many of us will ignore this as it makes for an inconvenience. 
Overall, a good unit. With a little re-thinking it could be  a GREAT unit.

Has plastic around metal heat base where it lights up, not glass. Works well otherwise, but we don't enjoy boiling with plastic and waiting for the side effects to set in. Return.

Plastic light around heat element

I got my Starfrit kettle last week, and returned it 2 days later. No matter how many times I tried to make it operate properly, it only came to a simmer and then shut off. Not once out of the many times I tried, did it even come close to a rolling boil. Additionally, the rope of lights that encircle the base were extremely dim, and really only showed up at the back of the kettle near the handle as the front ones flickered in and out. So you could only faintly see the lights when standing right next to it. This irritated me because I had two other electric cordless kettles with led lights that were highly visible from across the room, so not being able to see them in this kettle was a huge disappointment. (I replaced the other models because the bottoms discoloured and I could not find any information on how to clean them, or how that might affect the water I was boiling. Now there's plenty of information telling what that is and how to address it – so had I known then what I know now I would have kept the other ones.)
  I would not recommend this Starfrit kettle.

It's rusted inside the kettle after few uses. A few weeks after the temperature does not teach to 190 degrees.
