Sterilite's 10.2 Liter Rectangular StepOn Wastebasket features a color accented pedal, that when lightly pushed by a foot, smoothly opens the lid. Nested inside of the base is a removable liner that accommodates a standard-sized plastic shopping bag or a 4 gallon trash bag. The liner offers a bag-holding feature that keeps the liner from sliding out of place, as well as hidden from view when the lid is closed. Simply push the edges of the bag through the holes in the sides of the liner, securing the bag in place. This wastebaskets modern, space efficient design makes it the perfect solution for smaller spaces in the bathroom or office. It's sturdy construction and easy to clean textured plastic make it an ideal solution for busy households. The overall assembled dimensions of this item are 12 1/8" L x 7 7/8" W x 12 7/8" H.

This is a plastic bin and has a plastic container inside. I have been using this for a few days and have no complaints about it, except the lid may seem a bit flimsy at times.

Was slightly smaller than expected. But works great.

Bathroom garbage bin

Simple and sturdy for my small compost bin

Bought this to be used as an organic wastebasket in the kitchen. 
Other brands' slightly more expensive designs have the step-on pad + lid opening mechanism attached directly to the lid via a metal backbone/spine. 
In the case of this cheap Sterilite model, no such mechanism is present. Instead the entire weight of the inner basket rests on the pedal; so the lever action requires considerable effort upon opening to push the inner basket upwards so that in its turn it pushes the lid upwards.

 Hence as shown in the attached pictures, it's no surprise that those tiny plastic protrusions would give away in time.

If buying, consider having to flip that lid open manually with your hands after only a few weeks of usage!
