This chipper is a beast. It amazes me it's as good as it is for an electric model. Handled everything I gave it and asked for more. Limbs an inch thick I thought it would struggle with chewed them right up. I tell ya it's a little beast.
I was hesitant to purchase an electric model, but considering the price point I couldn't help but try it out. I haven't been disappointed at all. You will have to use the proper extension cord or it may not even turn on. Use of a lower gauge will certainly ruin the unit. Just don't expect this to run and handle things like a gas powered one and you'll do fine.
Chips came out nice and small. In the pic I attached I spread them out over some larger store bought. These will decompose a lot better and quicker than the store bought chips. Landscaping light for size reference.
I highly recommend this chipper. Very happy with my purchase.

The chipper is holding up well and producing lots of chips. With fresh blades (out of the box), it sailed through even hardwood branches easily. As the blades dulled, in even an hour, I started holding off on the 1" hardwood sticks because they were starting to slow the chipping and even caused some jams, which were fairly easy to clear and continue. I will try reversing the cutting blades and see if they are as hard to remove as some people report. Overall, I am happy to be able to chip up most of my brush. The chipper has not broken or been damaged and it feels like it will be good for a lot more work. Just don't expect to be able to work with larger branches, 1" being about the limit.

Solid chipper

snowjoe.com

After researching and reading many wood chipper reviews I opted for the Sun-Joe CJ602E for two main reasons. Overall good to excellent reviews on dependability and price/value as compared to other brands and models. Although I have used it only once, it was a good workout of over 3 solid hours of chipping fresh plum tree branches that I was pruning down simultaneously. It worked best on 1-1 1/4 inch thick branches without any jamming or bogging down. It did take some that were bigger but it really labored and did a lot of "kicking" back. Not once did I have to open up the cover to unclog it though. Only the spindly ends of the branches were not completely chipped, with about 3-4 inches left that would easily flow through and fall in a discarded 2.5 gal tile adhesive bucket I used to collect all the wood chips as I fed the branches through the chipper. I was surprised by how stable it was while using it on any surface, concrete pavers or on the lawn grass. I did prefer the lawn since it would not vibrate as much and helped keep the noise down better.

As far as the noise level, I did not find it so loud that I needed to wear ear protection nor did I wear eye protection. If used properly, there should not be any wood chips flying out since the rubber baffles do a very good job of keeping all pieces inside the chipping chamber. Some reviews and the owners manual also suggest the use of gloves but again and in my opinion, if the feeding of branches is done properly it is best not to use gloves which take away the tactile sense of the hands while operating the unit, specially the on/off switch. Common sense, alertness and patience, are really important factors that provide feed back in how the equipment is doing it's job. Ear muffs and gloves would probably reduce this sort of input. If you feel the need to wear eye protection, by all means wear it.

I made a modification that really helped in the collection of the wood chips. I traced and cut a piece of 1/2" plywood into a shelve which I then screwed to the tubular front of the unit's legs. On the shelf I then placed the 2.5 gal bucket which was perfectly held in place by the unit's bottom discharge chute. It worked like a charm with hardly any chips being spilled on the ground. A 5 gal paint pail can be used but it would need to be cut down so it will fit under the discharge chute, also a small plastic storage chest should work as well.

Yes, this chipper is really neat and fun to work with. I am looking forward to the next season when I will have the chance to do all the crepe myrtles prunings which I cut in pieces by hand this time before I convinced myself to get a wood chipper.

Excellent wood chipper!!

First of all, this is my second Sun Joe product so I knew it would be as described. What I didn't expect was the ease of use. Plug it in, turn it on, and it will chip up easily. I had a forsythia hedge that was not pruned in two years. There was a pile of debris eight feet wide and almost five feet tall. The chipper handled it all with ease.

I had a few branches close to the max size as listed by the product. It chipped those with no issues.

Now, I have a product that never needs oil, fuel, or winterization!

PS- the instructions also show you how to replace blades and etc. Very simple.

Exceeded my expectations

I was pleasantly suprised at how easy it was to set-up and use. I've used it twice. The first time for four straight hours - it performed quickly with only one jam, which was easily corrected. I gave it relentless workout and it performed beyond my expectations. The photo shows how much there was to initially shred and how much of a dent was made. I used it again the following weekend for a much shorter amount of time and although it did tend to jam more than the first time, it still pulverized the pile.

I love it!

I Love This Thing So Much I'd Marry It!

I have two residential properties to maintain (700 miles apart) so this travels easily and handles the job well of recycling trimmings as ground cover where burning is not allowed or material disposal is costly. Setup is simple, proper operation is safe, and care is minimal. Exactly what I needed..., and was unable to rent at either home.

Perfect for the homeowner

Not noisy, chews wood of stated size easily! The only thing I dont like, the "mouth" on top is too small to fit in some leaves that goes along with the wood/branches, and the outlet is pointed downward, straight (should have been better if pointing forward!)... I hope Sun Joe have something in store to make this wider, more accomodating.

Electric wood chipper

I have a yard with six mature maples and get a lot of branches when the wind blows and even sometimes when it doesn't. This is perfect for those smaller branches. It does handle branches up to 1.5" pretty easily. I also like the auto shut down when it gets to hot. A great feature. The only challenge is curved branches or where you break off a fork. That can hang things up for a bit and can be a challenge to push through, thus 4 stars instead of 5. I am looking forward to many years of use.

Perfect for 95 percent of what I do

To turn small branches into mulch, instead of having an unsightly brush pile, you can't beat this product. The only caveat is that the blades have to be very sharp. The original blades on the machine seemed to have gotten dull quickly, so we ordered a replacement. The new ones were razor sharp and worked much better. You can tell blades are sharp when it actually pulls the branches into the shredder vs. having to push them in. I'm not sure yet how long it'll take for the blades to get dull, but the blades can be turned 180 deg. to use the other sharp side. Plus we now have a (sharpened) spare. Incidentally, the shredder works great on bamboo.

Excellent chipper shredder

The chipper works fine. It shreds branches into chips that I can use as a mulch. It is powerful enough to chew on branches up to 1.5 in thick. The chipper has a rotating blade so many times when the branch comes into the chipper it will spin in front of your face! The main problem I have with it is the feeder: if the branch has a twist or a knot chances are that it will get stuck because of the spin of the branch and if the branch is a long one you will not be able to open it and release the branch. It requires to prepare the branches so they can get through. Also, I have not found an easy way to process leaves

Ok at best

I bought this specifically for cleaning up after some Elm trees I cut down and it does not work. Branches have to be trimmed to a single piece (no other branches coming off) to go into the chipper and then you have to "help" it find its way to the cutting blades. Very time consuming. The only way to get this to work would be to cut up the branches into nice, straight even pieces that fit perfectly into the tiny feed chute with no crook or bends or side branches. The thinner pieces actually just go right thru into the pile without being chipped. I ended up just burning the pile of branches. I will likely return this chipper. Don't waste you money on this one. Oh one more thing...it seems really cheaply made and the bracket to hold the paddle actually snapped during assembly.

Waste of Money
