Does exactly what it claims - shreds leaves. Don't expect it to save time - it just adds a step in the process. I added a loop of twine to the elastic cord which holds the bag to make it easier (see pix) to attach a bag. The air intake to cool the motor plugs up rapidly. Suggest you have a brush handy to clean it often. The cutting (shredding) lines don't last very long before needing to be replaced. I have bought several Sun Joe products and always found them to work exactly as advertised for a good price.

I love this thing! 
I killed my blower/mulcher trying to
grind up the pine needles from my 3 pine trees.This item eats though them like they're nothing!
  With them broken down they will compost well and I can use them to fill in my new garden beds.
I love the adjustable grinds. Easy to put together and use for a 70yo lady- and I think it is fun! I love a power tool.

Pine needles beware!

Easy assembly, lightweight, sturdy enough for what I use it for. It was a learning curve on how best to get those leaves to shred, but once i did i was very pleased with the result.  For best results, remove all sticks/twigs/branches of any substance, as like in using a stand up weed trimmer, the thicker the brush, the more you will need to replace the cutting string.   Safety glasses and a dust mask is needed at all times. This little machine has saved me countless trips to our recycling center and is helping tremendously in turning my shredded leaves into compost quickly.  I recommend it for anyone who has a ton of leaves to deal with in the fall/spring.

Keep the twigs, sticks and branches to a minimum.

Works really well. Mulched up leaves at amazing speed for an inexpensive unit. Did my whole yard and had 4 fifty-gallon bags of mulch. Never had to replace any of the nylon mulching strings. Be sure not to run any sticks or branches thru the unit and you will love this mulcher.

Great product at an affordable price.

I'm physically handicapped and my new house has a giant maple tree in the back yard. The amount of leaves this year was huge and this Sun Joe shredder made the cleanup very easy. I used a gas-powered blower to get the leaves in the back corner of the lot and my daughter mulched them. It was so efficient that I had a hard time keeping up with her. We took care of the entire back yard in less than a couple of hours, and the mulching line is still in good shape. The only negative is that it didn't fit well on top of the small round plastic garbage can I used and was tilted, but it still worked well. It does put out some dust so wear old clothes and a dust mask. I mulched a test batch using a 30-gal garbage back and there was no dust at all however. I highly recommend this mulcher!

Received it, had some problems installing legs is about it.  Runs great, goes thru cutting lines quick especially when there are small twigs in pile.  Used two days in a row, only problem was dirty power switch, used air compressor to blow out area and fixed it.

So far excellent yard tool

I got this to handle the lavender trimmings and leaves in my yard. My trees haven't dropped their leaves yet, but this baby ate its way through a large pile of lavender trimmings (I have 50+ plants), reducing them to a fine mulch that I can reuse. I'm sure it will be just as effective in shredding the leaves once they start to fall. It feels good to be reusing the yard waste in my own garden, instead of putting it out at the curb each week.

The string that it comes with is adequate for leaves and such. Next year, when I do the lavender again, I'll buy some of that more-aggressive trimmer string by Rino. As long as it's 0.10 inch, it should work fine.

Great shredder

I loved this leaf mulcher for my garden and composter material. However, a month after my 2 year warrantee expired, it stopped working completely. I ordered and paid for a replacement, and now continue with my mulching. Still, I am disappointed that the 1st one died on me. I have about 7 Sun Joe products, and love them. I never contacted the company because of the expiration, though only by a month.

Great when it works!

It had a part missing and when I requested to send it back it was declined.  So put it together the best I could and  it did not work.  NOTHING! Very disappointed that I wasted $100 on this piece of junk that is sitting in my tool shed. Do not buy this thing

Do not waste your money!

this item doesn't work with smaller leaves like scrub and live oaks.  you have to send the leaves through 4 or 5 times to get any kind of mulching achieved.  the "string" that mulches only lasts 5 minutes until it needs replaced.  highly disappointed.   waste of money
