Radio is exactly what i need.  I use it on sailboat, so it plays for long afternoons with no competition from engine noise.  Batteries provide plenty of power -- still not sure of their life span, but so far so good.  Rechargeable batteries in smaller weather solar powered units do not have very long charge or battery life.  The large D cell batteries are powerful and inexpensive.  Speaker size provides good sound quality.

Meets my needs

I needed a small compact am/fm radio to catch some of the big college football games while working.  For under twenty bucks, I didn't expect as good as reception as this little unit.  Was able to catch the local games I had wanted to listen to without any interference issues.  Has other features that a more expensive radio would have.

Great Little Radio

Well satisfied with  purchase of this radio.  Has large enough speaker to provide good audio, and digital dial makes for easy tuning.  Would buy again.

just what i needed

This radio works good on AM and FM. The controls are a little hard to get used to. My main complaint is that if you are using AC power, and the power fails, all the station presets and the time setting disappear. So I installed two D size batteries and only plug it into AC power when I need to change batteries. It is easier to replace the batteries then to keep  redoing the station presets and time setting. I can't hear anything on the two shortwave bands, that is OK with me, because I only wanted AM and FM bands. One morning we heard the radio making strange noises, the alarm somehow was set. I had to remove the batteries to make it stop. The directions don't tell you how to disable the alarm.

I bought this for my husband who is a postman. He liked to listen to the radio in his truck.  I hope that it does the trick. The sound quality is good.

A little for dad

You have to be careful about turning it off before switching power supply to hold preset stations & time.  This was described in another review and we thought it was manageable for the price & application we were using it in.  However, the presets kept disappearing ( possibly because the AC connection didn't remain solid).  We ended up returning it within 30 days for a full refund and will look for another model.

We should have believed the prior review.

Unreliable station & time presets

We live about 10 miles from the city and a radio station.  This radio would not pick up any am or fm stations without lots of static.  We returned the radio.  We then purchased the Sangean PR-D18BK AM/FM/Portable Digital Radio with Protective Bumper , which picks up local and fm stations. It would probably work well closer to broadcasting.
