Design

Great chair, strong design offers comfortable head support, air vented material, drink cup holder, light weight, arm rests become back pack type straps, and folds up for easy transport. We used two of these chairs for three days at music festival and transported them on back of motorcycle.

We bought two chairs. One was good, the other had a bad seam. We returned the bad one, ordered another one that was good. This chair is easy to carry and very comfortable to use. The neck cusion can be used to accommodate short and tall people.

Great Chair.

I actually had to sleep in it during one night of Comic Con. And it held up great and was quite comfy. I can't speak to it's durability, since I only used it for one night so far.but so far so good!

Great chair for the price!

I am a fan of the Kelsyus backpack chair. I am on my third generation. Very comfortable for the style and price. The only chair that will fit in the trunk of my Miata. Great on the beach.

Great backpack chair.

This is my favorite totable chair, and I've tried many over the years. This is the lightest, most compact design and I love that the arms turn into backpack straps so there's no stupid bag to stuff it into. I can fold it up or unfold this chair in less than 60 seconds. I personally like the mesh backing because the breeze keeps me cool, and I will use this mostly for outdoor concerts and festivals in the summer. They do have solid fabric versions, however.

As other have noted, the grommet that attached the arm rests to the chair frame doesn't work perfectly. After sitting on it a few times, the fabric had clearly pulled away from the grommet and it will probably tear eventually. On the other hand, all the arm rests need to support is my arms, so I don't expect this to affect the function significantly. To me, it's more of a visual blemish than a real problem.

The other issue to be aware of is that this is a "beach chair" design: you are sitting just a few inches off the ground. I like that posture because it lets the people behind me see over my head at the concert, but if two knuckleheads plop in front of me with standard folding chairs, they block my view completely. So, I try to sit as close to the stage as possible. Sitting down and standing up from that close to the ground can be challenging, particularly if you're overweight and nearing retirement age like me. I'm still figuring out the best way to gracefully get out of the seat, but so far I just "scoot" off the front and sit on the grass while I fold the chair up.

Several people stopped me at the Chicago Blues Fest and asked where I got this chair, as they thought it looked much nicer than the ones they were schlepping around. I find this design very comfortable, especially if I slouch all the way forward into a semi-reclining position, and the mini-pillow is a nice touch behind my head. So long as you realize it will take some effort to sit and arise from such a low chair, you'll probably like it too.

This was a gift for my husband.
He opened the package and assembled it. When he sat down, the arm rest broke right away. Tore.
I do not know if this is just a bad luck chair or bad sewn. I thought kelsyus makes good chairs. I have to return it. I want to order another one and see if that one is better.

This chair was way too small. The headrest didn't even come up to my neck. Also, mine arrived defective. It had torn stitching at the end of the armrest, such that it couldn't be put together properly.

Designed for little people

As others have said, this chair used to be awesome about six or so years ago. I have a good friend who bought a couple of these chairs from REI about six years ago. We have taken them on many multi-day kayak adventures over the last several years, and we all love them. They have held up very well, even in saltwater environments. REI has not sold these chairs for a few years, and now I know why. REI generally won't sell junk.

So I go to buy a pair of these chairs about a year ago but the Amazon reviews which are pretty consistent (i.e. very poor build quality, failure upon first use, etc.# had me very concerned so I held off. About two weeks ago I called to talk to Swimways about these bad reviews and the customer service lady said I shouldn't rely on other people's reviews. I asked her why they don't bring back the build quality #I think one review said 'bring back the good build quality of before and double the price", and I totally agree!#, and she denied that they had a build quality problem. I then asked if they had a warranty and she said 12 months.

So my wife and I decided to go for it and ordered two chairs. They arrived on Monday, I opened the box, unfolded one and sat in it...AND THE ARM REST RIPPED RIGHT THROUGH THE CHAIR FRAME!!! #see other similar reviews) I WEIGH 150 LBS WITH CLOTHES ON!!!. The lady at Swimways completely fed me a line of bull and would not acknowledge that these chairs have a build quality problem. It is so frustrating. They are such a great design for a low-profile collapsible chair, and at one time the build quality was great. Now they're JUNK, JUNK, JUNK!!! Who wants to spend their time sending a defective product back only to receive the same defective product in return. Well, they can believe I will do my part to inform people how terrible these chairs are. Should you buy these? I think you know the answer. I encourage all of those before me to write Swimways and ask, plead with them to bring back the build quality. They were at one time awesome chairs.

Great design, TERRIBLE build quality!!!

Bought 2 of these and paid $30 each to bring to music festivals. They looked decent, were low to the ground so we wouldn't obstruct anyone else's view. Mine broke within the first day. The cross bars in the front just bent and then snapped. I'm below the weight max by 50 pounds. The next day my boyfriends broke in the same way. We had to spend the next 3 days without any chairs. Truly a major disappointment. Keep looking, don't buy these.
