[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered this as well as a case to replace my previous external drive that I was carrying everywhere with me and using as a working drive. It turns out external drives should only be used for about 5 years and sparingly, as storage. I now carry files around with a memory stick. Lesson learned after I lost a boatload of photos and files.

Yep, it's a hard drive. Nothing wrong with it. Just a 5400 RPM drive, so it's pretty slow, but it gets the job done, and Toshiba drives tend to be pretty reliable in my experience. The fact that it cannot be converted to a SATA drive is somewhat disappointing, but it's meant to only be an external drive, so it wouldn't be fair to discount it on that aspect. Would reccomend.

Good budget drive!

I  have been using Toshiba products for a long time.  I have a smaller external hard drive and needed more TB as I have thousand of pictures. I am very pleased.

I am a very happy person when I work on my Hobbies

Just plugged it in and our channel master dvr  detected it and did the rest.  So now we have 1 tb storage capacity of storage of over the air tv programs!

Could not be better or easier.

The Toshiba Canvio Ready Portable External Hard Drive 1TB was just what I needed. It connected easily to my HP laptop with about a 12 inch cord that was included. My laptop recognized it and without any formating i copied files and suystem.

Good product

Both items required a repair by the system and a quick format. Otherwise they are just what I was looking for.  On the positive side they arrived 24 hours after the order was place.

I bought this as a backup drive for my Mac and reformatted the drive to work with my laptop as per instruction. It doesn't work! I hear clicking sounds and then it disappears from the desktop screen.

Frustrating

I got this device for $38 during their pre-Black Friday Sales. The device was delivered without any protective packages. It is brand new, but it did not turn on. It never happened to my other external hard drives like Seagate and Synology.  If I stored all my files on this hard drive, I may as well just delete all the files. It came with a LIMITED warranty of 1 year, covering basically nothing and not offering any data recovery service. Do not get a hard drive that comes with a warranty, get one that comes with free data recovery. That way the data is really secured.

Do not trust this device

I bought a 1TB Canvio in 2014 to backup my XP system.  I wanted a Western Digital but the Canvio was on sale.  The Canvio required constant maintenance which was annoying.  Wanting to get rid of the Canvio I bought a 2TB Western Digital drive.  It would not work with my XP system so I felt forced to buy another Canvio.  The problem with the WD may have been the 2TB.  I did not know and got nothing back from WD.

I felt stuck with the Canvio.

No matter what I did, the computer would not recognize the drive. I then bought an off brand and it worked instantly.
