It seems like there is a large amount of rules at first, but plays really easy and is great for beginners as well.

We have played this game with 4 other couple and just with my wife and I and have enjoyed every game.

If you go to YouTube and search for TableTop Takenoko they have a good video with the game rules and a play through. Try it out.

Really fun game for 2 - 4 players

Takenoko uses fun visual pieces that engage children to learn different problem solving skills without feeling like they are learning.  The game is really about growing bamboo, which is the main food for pandas that China has allowed Japan to have.  Using the common map that grows with every players turn, you grow bamboo that satisfies personal objective cards that increase your score.  The player with the most score after 8 rounds gets the gratitude of the Japanese Emperor and wins the game. 
As a family we have really enjoyed learning to play and as a homeschooling family we have appreciated the benefits we see in the children's learning.  We are eager to dig into the expansion set, that adds the lady and baby pandas into the mix.

Great fun Family game

For the price honestly the game is very enjoyable I love the colors the game is fun not luck based and you work with your opponents together and against eachother. A simple yet fun game enjoyable for all ages my mother loved it and so did my friends great game worth the price and the art is beautiful.

Takenoko!! (Bamboo shoot)

This is a super fun game!  Cute components so that kids will like it, but deep strategy that keeps the adults having fun too.

Fun once you figure it out and can get it going but a little different than most games.  If playing with kids work through it yourself first then play it through with them.  Fun if you figure it out first

Learn it then teach the kids it's fun

Christmas gift and everyone loves it and we are still playing it.  Pieces and board etc. are well constructed and sturdy and the game itself is not too complicated, a challenge, and just a lot of fun!

This game is a lot of fun. its challenging but not complicated and makes for a good evening.   Watch the youtube video on how to play if the rules seem too complicated.

great family game

Game was fun although it only supports 4 players. Really nice detail to game pieces and a decent pace (<30 min once you know the rules)

Great game for up to 4 players

Very fun game and easy to learn. Varied enough for multiple plays without getting dull.

Fun and Easy

Fun game. Our family has been having fun playing this and trying to understand strategies for winning. My main complaint is that it is difficult to really develop winning strategies. A lot of it seems to be random as to who wins.

Fun game, recommended but with some reservations.
