Ease Of Installation

The hardest part of installing was cutting the notch in door. Once that was done everything fit perfectly and worked perfectly.

I just finished installing the Tamarack Perfect Balance Interior Door Air Transfer Grill. Installation was easy but I would caution anyone doing this installation to measure your actual product dimensions before the install. The instruction tell you to use the template printed on the carton but it does not always match the actual dimensions of the product. Other than that it is a great product and performs as advertised.

Door Vent Grill

One of our HVAC return ducts is located in the master bedroom which would blow the door open if it wasn't shut completely.   I can feel the push of air against the door when shutting it.   I can just imagine how restrictive this is to the airflow in our house.   Also, in the summer - with the whole house fan running.   There just isn't  enough airflow past the bottom door gap, to significantly cool our master bedroom with the window open.  This grille is the perfect solution.   Air flows quietly thru with the door closed

The product works as designed.  The rooms that were not ventilating when the doors were closed other had a stale odor. Now the air seems fresher and healthier to breath.  Worth it.

Once I installed 1, the others became much easier to do.

Excellent product for old houses with no return vents.  Requires modification to the doors, but much easier than modification to the walls.

Installation was straightforward: Remove the door; align template on door (template is part of shipping box); Use circular saw and saber saw to remove wood section; Insert grill and fasten with two screws (not included).

The Good: 
It ventilates and looks like it was always a part of the door.

The Bad:
1. It is plastic - metal would be sturdier. If hit hard, like with a vacuum cleaner, fins may break. The plastic is thick but, after all, it IS plastic.
2. It is only available in white. I primed and painted it but there is a possibility of the paint chipping. I wish that there had also been a Brown color offered - in a tint similar to the typical interior door.

FYI: it is designed to fasten to the door bottom. Consequentially, the clearance between the door and floor will narrow by the plastic's thickness. Mine is pretty close and when we replace the carpet I will probably need to remove the door, saw off a half-inch and refit the grill. Your situation may vary but be aware of it. I probably should have just cut off part of the entire bottom when fitting the grill so that it wouldn't need to be redone if thicker carpet were later installed.

Does the Job - Closet door now ventilated

The installation was very easy; remove the door, lay out the template and mark your cuts. I found straight cuts work fine, though they want radiused corners.  Then simply screw the unit into the bottom of the door and re-hang the door.  Since this is an older house with just a central air return, rooms tend to get cold in the winter and warm in the summer due to air not moving sufficiently. These mitigate that problem, while reducing light and sounds traveling from one room to the next.  These are over priced what they are, but far less expensive to alternatives to alleviating not having return air ducts in each conditioned space.

Simple fix to no room return air ducts

We have two backs rooms that have no return vents and are furthest from the unit, so they're always too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. We bought this in door return vent to see if it's helps. It definitely has helped a lot from what we've experience so far! I only gave 4 star because it's just a plastic grate with a cardboards honeycomb design inside, doesn't seem $30 worth of material. But as far as installation and usage it has eased the hot/cold spots a bit.

What happens when this thing gets filled with dust. we are urged to change our AC/Heat filters every month. This thing is full of cardboard. And somewhere down the road, it will eventually be full of dust. Three stars for the plastic without the cardboard dust catcher.
