Be cautious of their directions! Try not to shake the thermometer or tap it on your hand or something else. It may actually cause the malfunctions. Put the thermometer in a freezer than return to room temperature. It may solve the problem both alcohol and mercury min/max thermometers have. Read on! After arrival of the TAYLOR Min/Max 546035 Analog Thermometer, put to use only to be disappointed. Separations, and the markers or magnets which are suppose to stay above the alcohol, sank into the alcohol. You can get the markers or magnets out of the alcohol, by putting the thermometer in a freezer than return to room temperature. However, the markers or magnets, sink back into the alcohol. The markers can stay out of the alcohol yet they did not stay in place. They moved down or up a couple of degrees, after lows and highs were reached. They have not perfected this thermometer or many are assembled with malfunctions or they direct wrong! They are just as accurate as mercury thermometers.  Mercury is heavy! Mercury min/max thermometers can also be troublesome. The markers can go down or up, after lows and highs are reached. Most work however. To get accurate temperatures, alcohol or mercury thermometers, work much better. Problem is keeping the markers in place! I'm scheming to buy another min/max alcohol thermometer, to investigate further! If you purchase one, remember to be cautious of their instructions! Put thermometer in freezer than return to room temperature. That will gel the alcohol in place! And the markers will stay out of the alcohol. I know! However, the one I purchased malfunctions! The two markers are half the size of mercury markers. It's best to use a magnet to reset the markers. The button takes a bit too long. Get a stronger magnet. It will move the markers easier! I can't judge the TAYLOR Min/Max 546035 Analog Thermometer! You have to judge it yourself. I can only tell you to be cautious. They have been selling min/max alcohol thermometers for a long time. That indicates they work. Elevation may be a factor, as well as noise and traffic.

Don't follow instructions if it arrives weak!
