[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son loves to build things so I knew this would be the perfect gift for him! Putting this hydraulic hand together did take some time but the directions were very detailed and helpful. We worked on building this hand over the course of one weekend, a few hours at a time. My son and I had so much fun building this hand. Once built, we filled the cylinders with water and couldn't wait to see this hand in action. This thing is awesome! Seeing the hand that we built together come to life was incredible! This hand is able to pick up an array of objects, the gripping technology is super impressive! It is super cool watching the water flow through the chambers! I also like that it can be adjusted to fit different hand sizes so we can all join in on the fun! My son has so much fun using this hand and takes it with him when we go visit family and friends. He loves showing everyone his robotic hand and they are truly impressed that we built it and how well it works! All of the pieces are very well made and the hand has held up great! I love that this is not only fun but also an educational toy that taught him about hydraulics and science. Seeing how much he enjoyed not only using this robotic hand but also building it, I will be looking into other kits from this line. This would make a fabulous gift, I definitely recommend!

Such a fun and educational toy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Mega Cyborg hand is a fun project to put together as a science project. 
My 13 year old took about 4 hours or so to get the pueces apart and assemble it.
He's spent all day trying to pick up various things. 
It's not for young kids, but kids that can put together small things.
It might make a fun parent child project, too.
The hydraulic part is really easy to fill with water and is such a good learning STEM.

Super fun project for my 13 year old

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Assembling the hand from “trillion” tiny & big parts is a big big time task. The frustrating part for my kids and me was the detachment of the parts from the plastic transport frame thing (don't know what to name them) numbered as A B C D F etc. when kids cut them to detach, the parts were all left with sharp edges at the attached areas where it was cut from (although we used the right tools). FIX: I had to grind or cut those tiny spikes or malfunctioning sharps in order to give a smooth surface to the parts. It was tiring effort and useless part. Took my hours doing this. Kids took couple of days finishing the making of cyborg hand (it was one of its own unique kind of assembly that took so long in my house. Otherwise we are quick).

WE LOVE IT AFTER IT WAS ASSEMBLED THOUGH.

Suggestion for the Manufacturer:- The thumb attachment to the hand where the thumb is inserted in, is very fragile & also very unrealistic in a sense that it is loose. It pops out when we push on the plunger for the thumb appendage. Other appendages are better. Overall it is a very sturdy & perfectly designed hand. It is a big fun.
Another suggestion to improve it is that the BLACK FOAM Sticker things are very poor quality. They don't even stick properly to the tips of fingers. Plz make them better.

Kids are extremely happy. They are amazed how the hydraulics work. It is their unique experience & very exciting for them because they had it handy to experience. I would say, if u can manage to assemble it, go for it. It's lot of learning for kids.

Assembly is a big time task….!!!

Be wary that the parts need to be VERY clean when they're assembled, such as not having burrs or extra pieces hanging off, because then the hand won't work like it should.

Neat STEM project

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is such a cool toy! My son is 7 and has just started putting it together. As stated on the box, an adult is needed to help with younger kids. You do need a screwdriver, not included. The instruction book has a mini comic which my son enjoyed. If your child loves Legos this is a perfect gift for growing and curious minds!

Cool for young minds!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son begged for this Mega Cyborg Hand and rarely does he ask for things. I wasn't sure it would be worth the money, but I was impressed once it was built. He is 12 years old and it took him a little over 3 hours to build. This toy does not use batteries and uses water hydraulics to function. My son really enjoyed building this and learning about hydraulics. The finished product was around 16 inches in height. It has 3 fingers and a thumb. All of the digits are adjustable from how far apart they are to their height. You can also adjust the grip which allows the user to place a hand inside to control the cyborg hand. He was able to grab objects like cups and bottles and carry them around. He even tried writing with a pencil and it worked. He immediately begged for a second one for the other hand. I did get him a second one but it is not built yet. I showed the finished hand to some friends with sons and they thought it looked like it would cost a lot more than the retail price. This is definitely a great toy for learning and playing.

Worth buying!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My daughter loves since and loves legos. This is a great mix of the two. She is 9 and enjoyed all aspects of this. They have a warning on the box not to lose the lubricant. I would recommend not losing it. 

Your 9 year old probably could do it by themselves, but do yourself a favor and spend time with them and do it together.

Great activity for the kids

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Okay, so this was a super fun and amazing project, but I want to be really clear about what it is and what it isn't. If you're looking for a cool toy that your kid can quickly snap together and play like he's a cyborg, this ain't what you're looking for. It's beyond a Lego set skill level, and takes some serious time. The age range is 7 and up with help, 10 and up 'I got this'. I mean, maybe a 10 year old could do this on their own but it's hard to imagine. Just be ready to have to put in some serious adult assistance time just in case. What this set was really about for us was the challenge of putting it together while having time to explain hydraulics, pneumatics, force, pistons, and advances in cybernetic exoskeletons. We assembled this with one adult, one 7 year old, and another adult handy to assist. It still took most of a day, with breaks to look up information about the sciences involved and to just relax and not get overwhelmed by how many steps and tiny pieces were involved. I super highly recommend a set of diagonal cutters. The kit recommends them but says if you don't have them you can use scissors and a metal file. I can't even imagine how much trouble that would have been. The diagonal wire cutters were exactly what was needed and made the process easier. You also need a really small Phillips screwdriver, size PH1. Think the little screwdrivers you keep around to work on eyeglasses or to get into those tiny battery compartments on kids toys. The other requirements were simple, just a ruler, felt tip marker, and cup of water, which are needed for the experiments that you can do with your cyborg hand, not required to build it. The instructions are actually a 53 page manual, with cartoons, detailed picture instructions, and other experiments included. There are a ton of pieces, and you really need to only cut out what you need as you need it, or you'll get lost quickly. The small loose parts come with recloseable ziplock bags... except for the tiny, tiny screws...have a Ziploc bag of your own handy for those, or a little tray to keep them in. It will take patience, and for us it took some breaks. Mostly the pieces only easily go where they belong, so don't force pieces and you should be okay, however we had a couple that went on wrong but with the screwdriver we were able to get them back off and get on the right track. Just take your time and pay attention. Now for the big question, will the toy last? I don't know, it works really well and my kid thinks it's 'awesome', but I could see how it might break pretty easily if he gets carried away or tosses it in the bottom of his toybox. I really look at this as it being more about the experience than the toy, so I'm not super worried about how long the toy will last but if that's going to be a deal breaker please remember this thing is assembled at home by kids and as such it might not be the longest lasting toy. But a really good time was had by everyone putting it together, we had some really great discussions about how and why the parts were going together how they did, and the kid was really very proud of himself when he was done building. And he had a toy to play with when it was over. I'd call this project a total win and definitely one of my favorite STEM projects that we've done.

Big Project but So Fun!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ok buckle up. My almost 7 year old son is very brainy/gifted/advanced. This kind of thing is right up his alley. He spent several days doing MOST of this himself. He needed help with the hydraulics and screws. There are a LOT of pieces so that can be confusing. The hydraulic packet needs to be clearly marked (we threw ours away). The company's customer service is great. We had to request more hydraulic fluid and foam pads and they sent both free of charge. The instructions are a little all over the place and confusing. I am a science teacher with a masters. We finally figured it all out but it was definitely frustrating at times! Then when we got done the hand was a little too big for my son. Plus the hand won't open up all the way. So I'm between 3-4 stars. It was a fun project/challenge. My son enjoyed it. Lots of good stem lessons. But some design flaws. I would try another kit from this brand for sure though! It wasn't a total bust.

Yes and no

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The box recommends age 7 with help, and ages 10 and up can do this unassisted. I thought this would be a great activity for my 13 and 9 year olds to do together. It was too hard for the 9 year old and he lost interest almost immediately. The 13 year old kept at it a little longer, but the screws were very hard to screw in and eventually he walked away from this, too. My 15 year old picked it up and worked on it off and on for a day. He did finish it, there were multiple screws he could not do and my husband had to help. The screws fit very tightly and are super easy to strip out. Once the hand was fully assembled, it didn't work as nicely as advertised. All fingers closed, but they did not reopen as easily and it was impossible to pick anything up with the hand. I love the idea of this toy, but everyone was pretty disappointed with the execution.
