I shave in the shower with hot water.
This pre-shave oil, followed by a can of Barbasol allows my razor (Gillette Mach 3) to last for several months.

I experience no razor burn or skin irritation of any kind.
I don't use a shaving brush.
The Art of Shaving is a brand I trust because it just works.

At the suggestion of The Art of Shaving Store, I started using this with my Braun Series 9 (9370). Reduces friction and increases glide. My only concern is that although water soluble, it does not easily rinse off. I end up shaving and then having to shower.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have to be honest, I was sceptical about the Art of Shaving Pre-Shave Oil. It just didn't seem like a necessary step in shaving, and then I tried it. No nicks. The razor just glides over your face. Great product!

Tip: Make sure both your hands and face are warm when applying, it helps to smooth the oil onto your face.

I have very tender skin and used to always ended up with bad razor burn. I use all Art of Shaving products and no longer have the red face burn. This Pre-Shave oil is amazing and helps give me the soft smooth shave that I like. I would highly recomend this oil plus the entire four step process for a clean smooth shave that you will truely feel great about.

Awsome Pre-Shave

I had never heard of using an oil for pre-shave. I agree with the other writers about the scent, but honestly I move right to the shaving cream after the oil and it has plenty of scent. Besides, there is still the balm and most men wear some sort of cologne anyway.
Using the oil really does assist the blade in sliding over the skin and stops the razor from grabbing. I have not had any razor burn since I started using the oil.

Smooth

I love this product, but it's been out of stock for a while. It has helped to provide a closer shave and has led to less skin irritation. However, 45ml is too small for my use, which is limited to one pump per shaving, and it needs to come in a scent like sandalwood.

Unscented Pre-shave Gel 45 Ml

I've got a tough combination to deal with....sensitive skin and a course beard. It's a bad combination if anything is off in the shave routine. Pulling if the razor is dull, ingrown hairs, etc. The pre-shave oil goes a long way toward taming my stuble and making my morning shave a lot more bearable. Thanks!

What a difference a little oil makes.

I was very excited to order two of these bottles as I am an ardent fan of sandalwood. But I was very disappointed with the scent in oil, absolutely no hit of sandal wood. I like the oil though but not very happy because of the scent or lack of it! Next time I will try the lavender, maybe better luck

Despite claiming to be unscented, The Art of Shaving® pre-shave oil most definitely has a scent. Luckily, it is a somewhat manly scent that is very nice. However, that is of little import, because if used, the razor cartridge utilized, will be in the bin right after the shave. Additionally, it is a good bet that The Art of Shaving® pre-shave oil is the culprit behind the shave taking four times longer to actually complete.
On the one hand, it is a very good skin protector during the shave. On the other hand, it gunks up the blades and making it impossible to rinse the razor in preparation for another stroke. Despite running it under hot water for a lengthy period, the blades would just not come clean. Typically, this reviewer would just use a basin in which to swish the razor head, however, it would appear nothing on earth short of a flame thrower would dislodge the gunk in the blades.
Long story short, avoid if possible.
