I've read several of Michelle Griep's books and each one is a winner including this one. It's London, 1885, and having lived on the streets most of her young life, Kit Turner is a very unconventional woman. She likes investigating crimes although not officially. She has been approved to work with Detective Jackson Forge on cases that may require connections to her street wise acquaintances. These two have lots in common and subsequently butt heads all the time. Their verbal sparing was an everyday occurrence that was humorous and entertaining for me. But they are also romantically involved. 
The descriptions of London at this period of time, costumes of the characters and their speech all made me feel like I was walking the streets myself. Close calls, stalkings, murders and thieves seem to follow these two. The cases they are working on both together and apart, from my standpoint, are difficult and full of mystery. But they are exciting and as a reader kept me on my toes. One phrase I read on page 126 “scab-nippity!” was new to me and one I'll have to try and remember to use from time to time.

Exciting historical story

This book was such fun to read!  There were lots of features that I enjoyed about it, such as mystery, as I am a big fan!!!  And there was romance, of course.  There was crime and it has a hero!  There are some twists, some turns and the unexpected, making is such a good read.  
This author has always entertained me with her enthralling books.  This book was a book I can truly recommend.  Don't miss this one!

London Detective Jackson Forge, along with street-wise Kit Turner, have become linked together as partners trying to solve mysteries, and put crimes bosses out of business in the worst areas of 1800's London. The two have also become linked together in love, and plan to be married soon.
But on the big day, Kit makes a decision that she hopes Jackson will be thrilled with. However, it blows up in Kit's face, and because of it, Jackson is ready to call everything off. Instead of working out their differences, the gulf between them grows.
Kit knows Jackson is the only one she will ever love, and tries to ignore the pain by working on more mysteries. However, Kit finds she can't solve them without Jackson. But he is so upset and cold towards Kit, Jackson won't even refer to her by her first name.
Will Jackson listen to the advice given him to forgive Kit, and renew their relationship? Will decisions Jackson made while angry prevent the two from reuniting? Will Kit get more answers about her mother's death?
This is the second in this book series, but the story stands on its own. The twists and turns of the mysteries, as well as, the relationship between Kit and Jackson, will keep you glued to this book. The character's attempt to follow Christian principles despite hard times, make the story realistic. I recommend this five-star book to fans of mysteries, history, or opposites attract relationships.

The Course of True Love Never Runs Smooth!

The Bride of Blackfriar's Lane by Michelle Griep is the tale of Detective Jackson Forge and street smart maiden, Kit Turner. Jackson and Kit are engaged, however there starkly different backgrounds do not always mesh as well as expected. So many secrets in their past and much going on in their street lives and at times it's difficult for them to communicate effectively. However, they are deeply in love.

Will Kit put Jackson first in her life? Will she ever overcome her street ways? Can a woman such as Kit be tamed? Does she need to be?



Although there was quite a bit of jargon in this book, I did enjoy the story. I was captivated by the twists and turns of the secrets of Kit's mother's death. This book is the second in a series and it may be helpful to read the previous book.  I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do. I found this very enjoyable book. I do recommend The Bride of Blackfriar's Lane by Michelle Griep!

Fun Read!

The Bride of Blackfriars Lane is written by Michelle Greip. This is the second book in the Blackfriars Lane series. I always love reading this authors work. She always draws you in within the first few pages. We return back to see Detective Jackson Forge and Kit Turner. They are deeply in love and ready to get married. 
 
The book is set in London in 1885. These two are such opposites and have flaws and that is why they are so likeable. Kit has a sharp tongue and Jackson is so set in his ways. Kit and Jackson have some investigations they want to solve for the other. However things don't go as planned. Kit ends up unintentionally hurting and humiliating Jackson. Jackson is highly embarrassed and calls the wedding off. However he does want to solve Kit's mothers murder. 
 
This book has romance, mystery and adventure. The author has crafted such a wonderful story. The historic setting feels realistic. The book is well written and the characters are well developed.

Good Historical Story

Loved every minute of this highly entertaining story by the supremely talented author Michelle Griep. Her writing is spot on for the time period and I thorougly enjoyed the expressions: Hounds a'fire! You sir, are incorrigible! Did being a bride mean she'd turn into a softhearted nimby-namby? What a load of balderdash. Gads! He had been right all along. Kit would be the death of him. Scads! Pennies to pounds...

Oh it was fun to be back with Kit Turner

Loved every minute!

I'm glad to see the story continue with Kit and Jackson in this adventure. I remember Kit from the previous book and how street smart she is. Who would of thought that we would be witness the marriage between the feisty   Kit and Detective Jackson. But not all is easy going as these two seem to find trouble. At the start of the book we can get a feel of how the story will go. Kit never backs down and her determination could cause problems for her and Jackson. 

Kit and Jackson are gearing up for their big day, but Kit has a surprise in store that she thinks will be a great wedding present. I'm not sure she was thinking  clearly when she set out that  morning of her wedding , but if you know Kit nothing will stop her. I did like meeting Jackson's brother and finding out what happened to him. Kit has such a big heart for him that she wants to find justice for him. The excitement grows as Kit finds herself in a little bit of a predicament. The author does a very good job of letting readers feel Kit's fear as she tries to remove herself from danger. 

Because of Kit's actions she may have lost the man she loves. On her wedding day she goes off to solve a case which to some  seem irresponsible. How will Jackson feel when he finds out why Kit didn't show up for their wedding? Kit's father doesn't hold anything back as he confronts her and points out that her pride may cause her to lose Jackson. I think I heard Kit gasp at those words. Has there been a time when you let pride interfere with doing what was right? 

The story delivers a few surprises that had me turning the pages as fast as I could.  What Kit finds while she is trapped in a building will cause an avalanche of hurt and answers that have long been hidden. I loved how the author shows how important communication is in any relationship as Kit and Jackson try to get past their argument. The theme of trust and forgiveness is shown in the story by characters who must decide if they will swallow their pride and allow their hears to be softened.

Excellent Book

This new release by Author Michelle Griep has all the elements for a good story, romance, adventure, humor, and whodunit! I read The Thief of Blackfriar's Lane, Book One in the Blackfriar's Lane series and it was very entertaining. Book Two, The Bride of Blackfriar's Lane promises no less. Not to be missed!

Not to be Missed!

I have been looking forward to The Bride Of Blackfriars Lane since reading Kit and Jackson's first adventure together in The Thief Of Blackfriars Lane. Across the ten or so books that I've read by Michelle Griep I have never been disappointed or felt like my time has been wasted. And, as anticipated this book turned out to be the rule and not an exception to it. 

There is a lot going on in The Bride Of Blackfriars Lane; as Kit and Jackson try to slip a wedding in between cases and the secrets they are hiding from each other a mystery from decades past comes back to haunt them in a most startling way. Though, as much as the various mysteries and cases kept me guessing – even surprised me a time or two just when I smugly thought I had it all figured out – it was really the back and forth between Kit and Jackson that lay at the heart of the story. They may have thought they were ready for marriage but they still have a lesson or two in learning to adjust expectations, putting pride aside, giving one another the benefit of the doubt, and simply working things out together – all while dodging killers and thieves, of course.

As with her previous books Michelle Griep has once again proven that she has mastered the art of mixing historical romance with suspense. Each page may be only black ink on white paper but her words bring Victorian England to life and make you feel like you have been dropped right into the middle of the drama and intrigue. 

If you haven't read The Bride Of Blackfriars Lane and its predecessor, The Thief Of Blackfriars Lane, you are missing out. Both of them are good reads from Michelle Griep and are entertaining and enjoyable all the way around...

Will danger and mistrust tear their love apart?

I was so glad to have a sequel to The Thief of Blackfriars Lane. Kit and Jackson are not a typical couple and it keeps you on your toes keeping up with their escapades . Just when you think they will finally marry and things settle down a cog is thrown in the wheel and we are off course. If you love historical London with mystery and intrigue mingled with a little romance then you will definitely enjoy this read. Ms Griep has you feeling and seeing the squalor of the downtrodden and you will chuckle at Kit's antics. Jackson has his hands full with her. I enjoyed this book tremendously and had to keep turning pages to find out answers.
