She just came out of her box yesterday. I've always thought the self on the Shelf stuff is overpriced. She's cute and well-constructed. She'll last for many years. Boys and girls both like her. We already had a boy who came a few years ago; the girls box and book is smaller, but I suppose that is to keep from raising the price due to inflation etc.   The girl book also didn't come with a dust jacket. These could be cons, depending on your personal preference. I've included a picture of the boy book from a few years ago to the girl book recently purchased. We don't cuddle our elves because that is against the rules of adopting a scout elf.  I like that the apron certificate is in the back of the book so that you don't have to keep track of it, but there is an option to scan the QR code and print a separate adoption certificate.  

If you're a Christian and sending whether to start this tradition or not:
Jesus is still at the center of our holiday, and our elves are just a fun addition. We don't do all the “crazy” things like you see online. Only once in a while they do something “crazy” like hanging from the ceiling fan by a string.

This item suited us great for our daughters, the only issue that I have with the product was the elf's hat wasn't very secure. It didn't last long before the elf's hat came unglued. It was fair priced. If needed I would buy this product again. The quality for the price was unmatched.

Elf on the shelf

I finally caved into getting my daughter an elf on the shelf after she has been asking Santa for it for awhile now. This was a tad pricey for what is actually is, however the joy my daughter had reading the story and seeing her elf move each day made her so happy. The elf is good quality and the book really explains what the elf on the shelf is and the rules the child must follow.

After a close loss in the family this little Elf was given there name in remembrance and for her great grandchildren it meant the world. It was the first time they lit up since then and have woke up hunting for her each morning.best thing ever

I gave my eldest granddaughter an Elf on the Shelf on her first Christmas and she loves it…. so of course I have to give her younger sister her own Elf on the Shelf..  it's a wonderful tradition.

My kids love this yearly tradition, they are always excited to see what the elf has been up to overnight and the box to store it   the book is really convenient

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My granddaughter needs a girl elf, this Christmas, because her brothers have boy elves.  I like that the elf has her own story in the book.  (I was hoping she had a skirt, too, but there wasn't one.)  Kids love waking up to find their elf in a different place every morning around Christmas time.

Would be great to not have to keep buying the book with the elf. Waste of money. We decided to purchase an elf for each child once they turn two - so now we're stuck with 4 of the books. Just trying to have fun holiday spirit and tradition but of course it has to be overly expensive bc you have to purchase the combination and not just an elf.

i wouldnt not recommend unless you check the box  because somone stole the doll out out the box which let me tell you even though they refunded my money which i wanted because they wouldnt provide another doll which is what i wanted im  not sure but you need to check the box period even if the people pick it for you! thank goodness for amazon for having my back with that one!
