The author has us traveling in two periods of time, a century apart, and yet really tied together as we learn.
Don't get too comfortable and you might want to keep the lights on, this book is scary in more ways than one, both in the past and also in the present.
The revelations here are going to make you cringe and you wonder what happenings in California have to do with Wisconsin, but unexplained things are going on, and you wonder why, and boy do surprises abound here, most I never saw coming.
A first novel for this author, and I cannot wait for more, she had me from the beginning for this real page turner of a read.
Come along with our current day Kate buys a home sight unseen, it doesn't even have a door, and see how it connects to early 1900's Ivy, you won't be disappointed.

Today, we are going to look at my latest read- The House on Foster Hill by Jamie Joe Wright. This is a dual perspective mystery book. One perspective is from the current era from Kaine Prescott who is dealing with the lost of her husband Danny. Kaine believes her husband was killed, but the police had considered it accidental. Kaine moves to a town Wisconsin where her great-great grandmother, Ivy Thrope lived. Kaine moves into the Foster Hill House to run from the home and the silent stalker behind in San Diego. Kaine soon finds some new friends that help her resolve and help her find the answers she needs and give her protection, as she is soon attacked in the Foster Hill House. However, Foster Hill holds some long historical secrets in itself.

Ivy Thrope,  (Kaine's great-great grandmother), is still grieving the lost of her brother Andrew 12 year prior. Everyone states that Ivy has some connection to the deceased and want nothing to do with her, because she works with her father, an medical examiner. When Ivy's father becomes involved in an investigation of a murdered teenage girl near the Foster Hill House, things become very interesting for Ivy. Her former best friend, Detective Joel Cunningham, shows up suddenly after 12 years to help the sheriff and , Ivy is not happy and is uneased. It was when she is attacked at Foster Hill, when searching for clues, that is when Ivy and Joel try to mend things together.

Will both of these women find and clues they need to bring the innocent some peace in their eternal sleep?  Will God help the two women to the clues they need to solve the crimes being committed. You will have to grab this great read. I can't put it down myself. :-) You won't be disappointed.

The writing style is seamless. You read something that Kaine finds in clues to her life and then you find Ivy is looking and finding clues to her own life mysteries. This is an awesome book. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

Heart stopping mystery that keeps you glued to it

Hoorah for this new author on the block. Excellent flow from the past and present, as they intertwine to keep you riveted to your seat. An excellent dual time line story that is full of mystery and intrigue, but is surrounded by Hope in the most dire circumstances. I could not figure this one out, as I usually can, as it twists and turns into a very complex story that spans generations. I would love to meet the strong women characters who remain helpful and hopeful. I was fascinated to find out the secrets of The House on Foster Hill. I look forward to more from this author, as I was engrossed from the first. A definite must read.

Loved...Excellent

This is a great book but I do have one complaint--I have lost sleep over The House on Foster Hill!  I often found it hard to put down so that I could go to bed and then there were times when the story spiked my adrenaline and I couldn't go to sleep!! The gothic look of the book cover was the first hint that there was mystery and suspense waiting inside and I was captivated from the first page. This is a time-slip novel and the two heroines and their lives are separated by a hundred years but both of them are affected by The House on Foster Hill. As I read the stories of Ivy Thorpe and Kaine Prescott I thought I knew how their lives might be tied together but it wasn't until the end that I truly understood and I was surprised at how events, both past and present, orchestrated these two lives that were a century apart.  These two women were so different and yet so similar and author Jaime Jo Wright was able to write a story that equally supported both of these leading characters. She had both of them experiencing tremendous trials and deep hurts but she allowed them to know two strong Christian men who believed in God and His Grace. 

The House on Foster Hill is a book of loss, love, determination, and faith. There is heartbreak but it is also heartwarming; helplessness is sometimes felt but hope is always present. And even as these two women question if God has disappeared from their lives the power of faith remains. The faith is sometimes wavering but it is never absent.

This is Jaime Jo Wright's first full length novel and it is an amazing debut. She writes about issues that have plagued women for centuries and I applaud her for shedding light on them.

Fantastic Debut Novel

Oh my lanta! I feel like I have been through the wringer and back on this one. In a very fantastic way! The very first pages suck you in and take you along for a mysterious and spine-tingling ride.  The characters are so endearing and very well thought out. They have become family to me and I couldn't help but feel their pain, fears and joys while reading their story.  The emotions and struggles of both Ivy and Kaine, in their respective eras, are perfectly done to reach your heart.  Grant and Joel are swoon-worthy heroes who know how to take care of their women.  There are no words to describe the house and all its intricacies! I could picture every nook and cranny, step and board that has a part in this gothic-like tale.  So deep and detailed it was easy to get lost in the pages. The issue that surrounds this story is a real struggle in our society today and this author touches on it perfectly with seriousness.
I did not find the dual timelines confusing at all – I thought this author did it rather well compared to some I have read. 
This is a new author who is going to go far and become a well-loved spot on my bookshelf.

Edge of your seat suspense!

In her debut novel, Author Jaime Jo Wright has delivered a compelling tale of murder and mystery through a time split story-line connected by an old abandoned house, the lives it touched, and the long protected secrets it holds. Gripping suspense, multiple plot twists, hair raising terror, and well developed characters travel across the pages and I found myself riveted by Kaine Prescott's and Ivy Thorpe's lives as they converged at The House on Foster Hill. Wright has woven a dual story so intricately entwined it took me to the end of the book to unravel and reveal the truth. And, it was a surprise...not what I was expecting at all. The seamless transition from one era to the other kept the smooth rhythm of the story flowing and held me captive with each turn of the page to the very end.Though the story in both eras has a dark  and ominous feel to it, it also offers light and life. Intertwined with the frightening evil that overshadows the house, a legacy of hope rises and shines through the strong women who refuse to let the house's secret ruin their lives or force them to live in fear; women who look to an eternal future. Wright does an exceptional job weaving faith into everyday moments in a natural, unforced way...as it should be. Talk of God's love and His promises written in scripture were flawlessly laid within casual conversation and deep reflections by the characters. Wright has crafted a well written debut and is an author to watch in the coming years. I look forward to more from her.

Gripping suspense - exceptional debut!!

Intriguing! The two main characters of the book, Kaine and Ivy, are separated by time, but have kindred spirits. Each has been exposed to trauma and loss, which has brought into question relationships, security, and their faith. Jaime Jo Wright writes a delightful weave of their lives, which I found very hard to put down.
The plot moves at a good pace, with unexpected twists. It is heart lifting, creepy, suspenseful, and a message of hope and faith. The well developed characters and scene settings drew me into the story almost immediately, instantly putting questions into my mind about what happens next.
Her grasp of the several professions encountered in the story are solid. As a mental health counselor myself, I found myself wondering if she had been one too, before she became a writer. She also shows a good grasp of tracking ancestry, and some post mortem practices. 
Once you've read, The House on Foster Hill, do yourself a favor and read her other works. She is a talented author you will enjoy.

Couldn't Put It Down!

Riveting from the first page, The House of Foster Hill is an engaging, spine-tingling message of hope. Much sleep was lost in the reading of this book, but it's worth every lost wink. The characters are well developed and you care about them from the start, and Wright weaves the hope of Christ throughout without being awkward, preachy, or distracting from the story. A true masterpiece of mystery and hope.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the third book I have read from this author.  There is always mystery and intrigue (and a little bit of implied supernatural) in her stories as she travels back and forth between past and present, weaving together the history (and mystery) of her characters.  I have enjoyed all three and recommend this author!  If you like the eerie, with unexpected endings, Jaime Jo Wrights books will satisfy :o)

Good read for mystery and intrigue

If you've ever made a rash decision out of fear you'll be able to relate to Kaine Prescott. She's experienced a series of events that have led up to her choice to flee to a new start. Her husband recently died and Kaine is convinced he was murdered and the murderer is now stalking her.

Sight unseen she buy a house in her grandfathers hometown. She should have done a little more homework before writing the check. The term money pit it an understatement. The house is in such pitiful shape that she can't even stay there until she does some repairs . . . starting with adding a front door. 

Running from her problems doesn't seem to be working. She thinks her husband's killer has followed her and the house itself holds a mystery from the past.

I enjoyed this debut novel from Jaime Jo Wright. It is a romantic suspense so there's a hunky guy involved but that relationship doesn't take anything away from the mystery and intrigue. I loved Kaine's tenacity in the face of mounting adversity. Most women would pack their bags but Kaine put on her big girl panties and faced it. If The House on Foster Hill is any indication of Ms. Wright's skill we're in for a treat with her forthcoming novels. 

I recommend this book to anyone that's ever been in over their head with a home improvement project, scared out of their wits by something out of their control, or just plain loves a suspenseful story. This one is a delight with two different storylines that converge into one.
