So I love this movie but....there's always a but....I read the reviews about the picture being dark & yes this will vary. If ur blu ray is older it's darker but if you blu ray is newer it's brighter. Also I was frustrated that I had to learn to update my blu ray player in order for the disc play (may not play on all blu rays) but once i did it was a beautiful picture.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a classic, most people will already be familiar with this movie from the early 90s. It is backdropped during the colonial wars battling for the settling of North America. Basically a snapshot of life in the late 1700s amongst the warring, the interrelationships between British & French power, their native american alliances and the frontier settlers who might otherwise do without the strife of war coming to their lands. I did enjoy the movie. There is not real long term arc to the story from beginning to end, which is why I refer to it as a snapshot of those particular times. Not necessarily a feel good movie, just a reflection of the hardships of life on the frontier during those times and events.

So chances are, if you're buying this movie then you've seen it before. I bought the Blu Ray. As mentioned, the version you get is not the one with crossed tomahawks. That's no reason to downgrade it. If you've seen the movie before then you already know it's  dark at times. That's the movie, not the fault of the product. Lot of night time and woods scenes. Lastly, not mentioned in the description, this DOES come with the digital download. (SEE PICS)

I had not seen this in a long time, so did not notice the director cut changes. Movie was still awesome. Blu-ray conversion was good, a bit soft for my liking. It is a dark movie at times so make sure your viewing room is dimmed or dark.

A love story set in the American wilderness

Product cover did not match the actual cover I received. It was the same movie, same version, but did not receive the cool looking crossed tomahawk cover shown in the image.

Not totally as described.

Having already had the Movie on DVD, I purchased it on Blue Ray to get the best picture and the best sound.. I was very disappointed from the start. The movie's picture is horrible. Super dark, that I had to change my TV picture mode and brighten the screen(alot) just to see the movie. You would think they are hunting the Deer in the woods at night at first.. The Movie is great.. but the Blue Ray picture and sound quality for this film are the worst ever. I rather see it on DVD than on Blue Ray.

I understand the movie is old.. but why the picture is so dark I don't get. If you are buying it on Blue Ray just for the picture and 1080p picture, DON'T. You will see much worst picture than the DVD format.
