The Lumineers The Lumineers Vinyl. The Lumineers, a folk-rock trio out of Denver, Colorado, have a pretty interesting sound, an Americana mesh of folk, rock, and gospel that is similar in tone to the Waterboys, say, or an alt-folk version of Bob Dylan circa Desire, thanks in no small part to Neyla Pekarek's inventive cello. And there are some very good tracks on this debut album, including the chamber honky tonk of "Dead Sea," the delightfully goofy but then ultimately sad and elegant "Submarines," and "Stubborn Love," which manages to be bright and chiming while also being haunting and mournful. Not everything here clicks together at that level, but each track is inventive, and when the songwriting and arrangements cross paths perfectly, as they do in the above songs, this is a delightful band. ~ Steve Leggett

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As someone who grew up flipping records on a turntable, I've always had a soft spot for the warmth that vinyl brings to music. When I heard The Luminaries were dropping their debut on vinyl, I was curious to see if they could pull off something that captured that nostalgic magic while feeling fresh for a modern audience. They nailed it.

The first thing that struck me was the rich sound – the analog warmth on this record just hits differently. It feels alive, with each crackle adding to the depth of their performance. The band's blend of indie rock and folk has a way of pulling you in, but on vinyl, the experience is elevated. Tracks like “City Lights” and “Solstice Dream” stand out, but what surprised me most is how cohesive the entire album feels – like the soundtrack to a road trip or a rainy afternoon spent indoors.

At 45, I've seen trends come and go, and it's easy to spot when something is more style than substance. The Luminaries manage to be both current and timeless, with lyrics that resonate in a way that feels personal without trying too hard. There's an authenticity here that's refreshing, especially for a debut.

If you're a fan of bands like Fleet Foxes or The National, this album will be right up your alley. The pressing itself is excellent too – no warping or surface noise, which is always a concern with newer vinyl. Whether you're a seasoned vinyl collector or just starting out, this is one worth adding to your shelf.
