Mary Bryant Shrader is very detailed and will cover everything you can think of on what recipe you are looking at, so read the 'cook notes' she provides. I have been following her for years and alot of what is in the book is on her YouTube. Nice to have everything in the book and not have to write everything down. She will tell you what is better and why, like dehydrating or oven roasting seeds and nuts and why. The different types of flour. She gives history on foods, alternate choices for ingredients in some recipes. How to process and use dry beans in recipes. She has knead and no knead bread recipes, make your own yogurt, ginger ale(we love this one alot), broths and how to reuse the veg you removed. It has a excellent table of contents and index. It's a big book and covers canning, pickling, fermenting, sprouting, making condiments and snacks to mention a few. It is now a prized cookbook of mine and I am very happy that I finally own it. 
I only posted snipits. I don't think I'm allowed to post the whole recipe.

Great book.  Beautiful to look at too.

By far, the best cookbook I have ever bought. This cookbook goes beyond just recepies. The amount of knowledge that is in this cookbook is amazing. It is as if you are having a conversation with your grandma or great grandmother and she explains how to cook and why they cooked that way. There is sometimes to be said about returning to nutritional basics! This book contains the lost art of cooking simple, affordable and nutritional items for yourself and your family.  Budget friendly nutrient dense foods, cant go wrong here!

Enjoying this Cookbook

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband loves fermenting things.  He really wanted this book, and I ordered it for his birthday!  He will love it!!!  I couldn't find it on other sites online.

I loved the detailed cover. I enjoyed the pictures of Mrs. Mary.  I also thought the inspections were very clear. The book had the fell of her video's.  i am so happy with The Modern Pioneer Cookbook.

I purchased it because it was advertised as a cookbook. Very few recipes and lots of idle reading. Like 5 or 6 pages on how to boil a bone. Save your money

Not worth it.
