How is it possible that this series just keeps getting better. I was so impressed with this debut novel. It was chilling and so realistic that I couldnt stop thinking about the cruelty that some people can inflict on others. Its hard to believe that people would be so desperate to actually go to a health spa that believed fasting would cure your ailments. Ms. Lawrence penned the fictional characters perfectly to blend in with the factual characters and wove a story that was engrossing and spine tingling. The old saying that desperate people do desperate things fits Stella as she seeks help for migraines but instead she finds hope and her eyes are opened to what real love is. I found this book to be a great read but warning if you are prone to nightmares choose to read during the day. I was so curious about Linda Hazzard that I looked her up on the internet and found the authors research impressive.

Spine Tingling And Hopeful

This was one of my favorite books in this series.  I loved Henry and really liked Stella once she figured out that she was being a selfish brat at times.  It is hard to understand that people can say they have a cure for something and others will believe them no matter what because they are hurting.  I do not know how anyone can believe that starving will cure anything.  This made me cry and cringe in many places.  I loved the descriptions of the walking skeletons the best.  I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Arguably the creepiest and most gruesome of the True Crime series so far, The Purple Nightgown is the fictionalized true story of Linda Burfield Hazzard. AD Lawrence writes a tautly woven story of Hazzard's compound where she employs outrageous, torturous methods to bring true health to the wealthy, sickly rich. I loved seeing the gradual change of attitude in Stella, from entitlement to understanding we are all equal in God's sight and learning to totally depend upon Him. Henry is just lovable in all his protective, caring ways. Jane's actions surprised me.
Warning: it may be hard to sleep after reading this book! The true historical notes at the end are a real bonus. Highly recommended.

Faith, Romance Shine Thru Creepiest True Colors

This story will have you quickly page turning for answers, how could this possibly happen and then was justice really served?

This is the story of a young, wealthy, young woman, struggling to find her place, and about to inherit her fortune. Stella Burke does have a problem of debilitating headaches.

Her childhood friend and chauffeur is there for her, but can she see the real him?

Stella desperately wants help for her headaches and decides to go to the Hazzard Clinic. Now this is part of the true crime series, and you will soon find your heart in your throat. We are there at the clinic, or known as the Starvation Clinic, run by Linda Hazzard, a quack, and as you are reading, a very scary evil woman.

As we meet the people currently at the clinic you will soon wonder if any will leave alive.

You really need to read this to see how everything turns out, but I for one did not feel justice was served! You also can judge!

Justice?

The Purple Nightgown is a very well-written historical crime book. A. D. Lawrence with her craft has the reader pulled into the world that her characters inhabit. It's easy to understand Stella being a bit of a snob at the start of the book. Her transformation throughout the story has her become a truly likable character, and Henry is always a great guy. The story is told in such a way that it's like a movie in your mind. I could easily seeing it being made into an actual one. The plot itself is chilling. I recommend this book to suspense readers, clean romance readers, true crime aficionados, and Christian fiction readers. I have enjoyed all of the books that I've had the opportunity to read in the True Colors series and hope that there are more in the pipeline. I would definitely read more from this author as well.

Wonderful Addition to the True Crime series

This True Colors series is absolutely fascinating. I've always been interested in true crime stories and this is right up my alley! I have a book based on the story featured in The Purple Nightgown. That book is Starvation Heights and it's very comprehensive. I love how Lawrence brings the story to life here. I look forward to the next in this series.

Great Series

God hadnt changed-His love hadnt changed.
Stella Burke is a pampered, sheltered heiress who has a good heart but not much practice in doing good for others. She suffers from migraines. Ms. Lawrence did an admirable job of how Stella experiences these debilitating headaches as well as the remedies of the times. These headaches are the impetus for seeking out Dr. Linda Hazzard and her Wilderness Heights clinic. What she finds is chilling and she can not escape. The fear is palpable as Stella tries to escape the clutches of the malicious woman. It is hard to believe this was based on a real person, but the author made this very convincing. 
Despite the evil portrayed, there is also hope, faith, forgiveness and charity. This story contains a favorite trope: friends to more. Henry is a staunch friend and he comes to life under the pen of Ms. Lawrence. This nicely rounds out the story from becoming too grim.
I like the way scriptures return to Stella to give her encouragement in her time of need. 
The scenes kept me turning pages well into the night. 
This was a very well done debut from a favorite series.

As I read this story, I found it hard to understand Hazzard's mindset but we know that evil has always existed and greed is often a contributing factor! The Purple Nightgown is A.D. Lawrence's debut novel and it's a great addition to the True Colors historical crime series. It is chilling The Purple Nightgown is fiction based on historical facts, and it is truly a disturbing story. Stella Burke and Henry Clayton are fictitious characters but Linda Hazzard and several of the other clients really existed. In the early 1900s, Hazzard operated a clinic (sanitarium) that promised good health. Her methods included fasting that were severe, inhumane, and bordering on torture. Worst of all, clients who entered her clinic were cut off from the world and they often didn't leave!

As I read this story, I found it hard to understand Hazzard's mindset but we know that evil has always existed and greed is often a contributing factor! The Purple Nightgown is A.D. Lawrence's debut novel and it's a great addition to the True Colors historical crime series, but it's also a novel of hope and faith. I recommend it to all who enjoy historical Christian fiction.

Chilling Historical Fiction!

This is the 11th book of True Colors Series. I'm always shocked when reading one of the stories in this series and the evil in the world regardless of what time you live in. The Purple Nightgown is such a book. I've tried to lose weight just to fit in my clothes but never ever thought about starving myself because of a physical malady. But Stella is desperate to do anything to control her debilitating headaches. She falls into the lies written by Linda Hazzard. This is indeed a page turner. A nail biter for sure as you turn page after page to see just what is happenings at the spa that Linda, her husband and son own and manage. Creepy things are happening. Can she leave when she wants to? What will Henry, her chauffer and friend, do to find out about her when communication is not allowed.

          READ THE BOOK!!!
