Kristin Hannah writes extremely well. She has a way of writing which introduces the characters while also showing you who they are, really, not a stereotype. She will bring you into her Historical Novels with ease and delight. She has written many novels and I hope to read them all. My first introduction to her was The Nightingale. She celebrates the role and power of seemingly ordinary women, and what we accomplish when needed. She has become one of my favorite Authors, and she is certainly worthy of the title “AUTHOR”.

As a baby boomer, the Vietnam War was an important part of my young adulthood. Having lived through it and having two brothers serve in the military during that era, I really didn't want to read any more of it. This book however provided a view of what it was like for those who served in a medical capacity in Vietnam and the damaging after effects of that service.

Fascinating

If you lived through the late sixties and early seventies you'd know Hannah has captured those time in the little intimate moments of her story. It's easy to criticize the government in retrospect, but Hannah shows us that when you're living in the moment it's very easy to be swept away in a blind desire to "serve." Of course, the other side of that coin is that having experienced those times and suffered under the pall of doubt regarding your future (caused by the war and the selective service) one never again trusts their government and always and forever holds within them a resentment that we were lied to about the need for that war and then we were lied to about the execution of that war and worst of all we can now see that never was their any real intention on the part of our political leaders to WIN that war. It was a losing cause from the start and therein lies the real tragedy.  Even though my "number" wasn't chosen in the draft lottery and I therefore was not called to serve (in 1972), I nevertheless still feel the hurt and anger and betrayal that Vietnam veterans must feel and that I'm sure fed into their collective PTSD. Unfortunately, like any horror of history, and like Faulkner said, the more things change the more they stay the same. Thank you Kristiin Hannah for writing it!

The story was a page turner. It took me back in time to my childhood during the war. So interesting to read of the women serving as nurses, unknown heroines, their journey of survival in Vietnam, and back home, in a bitter hostile country. I loved this book. Opened my eyes to yet another ugly side of that war and the endurance of those who served.

Endurance.

Buy this brand because it's a 9 pound bags and I can handle vowels. I can handle the bags. Otherwise it's just litter and seems to be dusty.

This book was in excellent condition and a very interesting fiction that seemed stunningly accurate in historical context.

Beautifully written and life changing read

Bought for my wife and she couldn't put the book down until she finished it. She believes it is the best book she read in the last year, which she averages 1-2 per week.

Strengthening, for men %26 women alike

The Women was a good read. It reminds me of that time in America's history  when we could all have done much better supporting our troops and remembering the women  who sacrificed as well. It brought back memories of that time since I am close to Frankie's age.  I am eternally grateful that my husband served in Germany and not in Vietnam.  I would recommend the book.

I'm probably not the target audience for this, but my odd obsession with fiction about the Vietnam War
