Comes in a box with 7 flaps to open like an advent calendar, or all at once. The trains are the same size as traditional Thomas trains. The wheels, bottoms, details and hooks are all plastic. Only the frame of the body is diecast metal. They couple together with plastic hook and eye style connections. They come apart when picked up or stepped on, which is actually a good thing because it keeps the plastic connectors from breaking in these situations. My 2.5 year old learned pretty quickly how to couple them together, but it's definitely more complex than the traditional magnet connections. Kana doesn't have a front hook so has to lead, and Bruno doesn't have a rear hook so has to go at the back, logically. Carly's crane comes off easily, but also goes back on easily.

Definitely a GREAT set if your kid is into the All Engines Go series, and you want them to work on their fine motor skills and creativity.

The color and designs are very unique as it is not just the original designs. There are features like colorful wheels and playful designs that remind you of a party. My son said the trains made him so happy, and they really do have cheery and bright faces and decorations! The set is so well-made and very durable. We also loved how each train had their name on the bottom. The engines fit on any Thomas track, and we were able to use them with one of our Tidmouth Sheds setups. These engines add so much fun and color to any Thomas fan's collection!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We loved this super fun Thomas and Friends Surprise Gift Set! Why have I never seen such a thing except at Christmas before?! We had a vacation planned so I got this at the perfect time to be able to give it to my 5 year old to countdown the days until we left! There are 7 days of surprises to open, the trains are of course durable and cute as usual! It was such a fun treat for him to be able to open one everyday, would be wonderful as a birthday countdown!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was pleasantly surprised by this set. It is similar to an Advent calendar but for 7 days leading up to an event such as a birthday. Each day you can have your child open one or they could open all of them if they would like as well. I thoroughly enjoyed opening these each day with my child and the cars were so fun and there is a good variety and a couple of surprises. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes vehicles/trains as they are vibrant and fun and a great addition to any collection.
