My sister came to my house for Christmas dinner and while I was mashing the potatoes she made a comment that her handle on her masher had broken recently and she needed to get a new one.  I found this one at Walmart and bought it for her.  I gave it to her on New Years Eve.  The other day I asked if she had a chance to use it and she started raving about how good it was and she was so glad I had gotten it for her.

I can finally open the utensil drawer without struggling and using a ridiculous amount of curse words. This folds so easily and allows the shallow kitchen drawer to close with ease and keeps my cursing in the kitchen to a the regular amount

I would recommend the Thyme %26 Table potato masher, but with some reservations.  
Pros: Attractive style, clever design
Cons: Not as functional as a standard, non-folding masher
If I used a potato masher more than once a month, this would not be my first choice.  But since I rarely use a masher, the folding design (allowing me to store it conveniently in a utensil drawer) is enough of a benefit to outweigh the fact that it simply does not perform as well as its standard counterparts.  The folding mashing disc tends to slip out of position during use - not a big deal, more of a slight inconvenience - so it isn't as strong as a standard masher.  Useful enough for well-boiled potatoes, but I'd hate to try it on tougher vegetables, like turnips.  It just can't tolerate hard mashing the way an ordinary masher can.
So it's really a trade-off: convenient storage vs. strength.  For me, the storage wins out, hence the 4-star review.

Convenient but not very sturdy

the only reason i give it 4 stars is because the flat portion of this masher swivels and pivots.  It may be useful and desired by some so it still deserves at least a good rating.  I have on already that is fixed and is easy to wash and holds up quite well with its stainless steel plate bottom so i expect it to last a long time.  This one i have no experience with so only time will tell.

great tool but i did not need a pivoting masher

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It works well, I just have a problem with how easily it clicks out of place when you're trying to use it. I appreciate that it can turn into a sleek tool to fit better in a drawer but not helpful when you go to press down on potatoes and it keeps flipping.

Works fine

I was disappointed that a warning label on this potato masher said it could caused cancer and reproductive harm. This warning was not included in the Walmart specifications.

 Assuming that the cancer warning pertained to the plastic handle, I used a screwdriver to remove it from the functional metal part of the potato masher. I threw away the plastic handle.

 The metal part of the masher works fine without a handle. I do like the feature which helps the masher store more-or-less flat. However I do not recommend this product because of the cancer and reproductive harm warning.

the smasher doesnt lock into place well enough amd folds up continuously while trying to mash potatoes, my potatoes were a little too boiled so they were VERY soft. It was easier to mix them with a fork than use this to mash them.

It collapses when you go to use it if you don't push straight down on it. Which is impossible. If you teeter to the right or left, it collapses/folds and doesn't smash the potatoes at all. It's terrible. I was really hoping for an easier-to-store masher but this isn't it. :(

i love the idea of this being able to fold flat. that's literally all there is to love. as you mash, this bends all over and doesn't make it through potatoes. i attempted to mash ~maybe~ a pound of potatoes with this thing and got so aggravated that i switched to a fork. when i tell you, you'll be less frustrated mashing TEN POUNDS of potatoes with a fork than you would using this tool, i mean it. any amount of pressure you use to mash potatoes is thwarted by this $7 piece of garbage bending all over the place. dont buy this.

right idea, horrifically wrong execution

The only good thing about this is that it is collapsible. Unfortunately, that is also its downfall. Due to the ability to collapse, as you use it it shifts around and doesn't really mash anything besides whatever is in the immediate center of it, unless you kind of rock it more. It's very frustrating to use. I only used it a couple of times in the past 3 months and it broke. One of the side screws just popped out while using it and fell into my food. I do not recommend this product at all.
