Instructions

Product arrived on time. It is heavy and awkward, but manageable. Putting product together is a bit tasking and time consuming, however, once started comes together with a little patience. Final product is about 5' high, 4'2" wide, 10" deep, beautiful and sturdy. It is my son's trophy display case as well as his desk. He loves it - perfect size/fit.

great product for limited areas

This desk is sturdy and beautiful. It was packaged well and shipped fast. It can be a little confusing to put together if you are not used to putting things like this together but all in all this was a great purchase.

Just what I wanted!

I like it. However, it was smaller than I thought. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since I don't have much bedroom space, but the downside is that it won't fit all my books.

The shelves weren't all that easy to put together and the bottom shelf is not connected due to defective parts. But perhaps it's fixable with some other screws if I try.

Overall I am happy with the shelves, but they could be better like pretty much anything else. I would recommend this product if you don't want to spend a great deal of money.

Smaller than what I thought. Need 2 people to assembly. Overall nice desk. Be careful when putting together you can easily turn pieces the wrong way.

Nice desk

For my room I needed a combination of desk and bookcase. When I saw this Altra ladder desk and bookcase, it looked perfect for my room. I was not disappointed.  It took just two of us to put it together, and we had it together in less than 30 minutes. The instructions were right on and it was very easy to put together.  I love the fact that it tells you how much weight you can put on each bookshelf which makes it easier for me to distribute my books.

Desk/Bookcase

I read a lot of negative reviews about this shelf/desk, but I didn't have any issues.
All the parts were in the box and nothing was broken.
I liked that the hardware was individually packaged and coded. This is extremely important when assembling diy furniture.
The shade of red is a true red. Yes it's easy to scuff, but that was fixed using red shoe cream polish.
I would suggest when screwing in the pieces for the cams only screw till you no longer see the threads. This helps when tightening the cams with no problems.
It took me several hours, but I took my time and pleased with the results.

Heavy Sturdy Shelf Desk

It's what I expected EXCEPT -- it arrived in damaged packaging, with a broken "leg." My son was coming home on leave and I had hoped to have it put together to surprise him with it. I assembled what I could, without the broken piece. (I figured, no problem -- there is a toll-free number to call to have parts replaced for free.) The next morning, I called to have the piece replaced, but it's on back order from the manufacturer. Not great. Now I have this mostly-assembled thing that may not be able to be completely used for goodness-knows-how-long. So, I guess the product itself would be okay, just not if anything is missing/damaged.

It's what I expected EXCEPT --

Put together the main unit and shelves with no problems. It is a solid piece that looks very nice. The optional drawer is terrible. The screws that come with it are worthless and you'll need to use additional power tool to drill holes into the wood since the pre-drilled ones aren't deep enough. The drawer is also much more shallow then the picture leads you to believe and will stick when opening and closing. Unless you really need the storage space, opt for this unit without the optional drawer and save yourself the money and trouble.

Drawer is awful

This purchased was left at my door and the box was bent. I knew it was damaged looking at the box it came in and I'm sure he knew also. I opened it to be sure and I was right. I had to purchase shipping tape to have this heavy box which weighs over 90 lbs and return it to the closest Walmart in a small car in triple digit weather.
