Tiger is a superior brand, my family has had the 10-cup model with the cute pink flowers for decades. We recently purchased the same model but in the 4 cup version and it works just as great as the bigger models. It has a warmer that helps soften the rice further after cooking is finished, and keeps the rice warm for hours. It cooks all kinds of rice, Japanese, Jasmine, Basmati, American, Spanish, etc.  Its a bit pricey but worth every penny!

I highly recommend this pretty rice cooker, its easy to use and easy to clean.

Excellent rice cooker

This is the most well-made rice cooker I ever purchased and used. I needed a second rice cooker. The other rice cooker I own and still use, which is also made by a famous Japanese manufacturer and which I have used for over twenty years, had one design flaw. I found it difficult to clean the steam vent because the vent is built into the lid. On the Tiger rice cooker, however, the steam vent is removable and you can take it apart and clean it-INGENIOUS!

I like to cook whole grains, such as quinoa, spelt berries, barley, brown rice, etc. The rice cooker cooks whole grains great. The ratio of whole grain to water is 1:2. For example, one measuring cup (the plastic cup included in the box) of whole grains will require approximately two measuring cups of water (again use the plastic cup). It all depends on your personal preferences for fluffy versus firm. You can make white rice too, but whole grains are healthier.

Owners of Tiger rice cookers have used them for decades. The price tag may seem steep, but they are worth it. My mother uses a large Tiger rice cooker daily for years. Although these cookers are lightweight and may seem fragile, the units are extremely well-made.

I recommend buyers read the instruction manual carefully. In the past, I always used to wash and rinse my whole grains directly in the non-stick pan, but the manual instructs you to perform this step in a separate bowl and transfer the washed grains to the non-stick pan. I do this now because I will not scratch the non-stick pan. Do not exceed the measured upper-most marking on the inside of the pan to avoid excessive steam splatter or an overflow-another useful manual instruction.

You can always send away for replacement parts from Tiger if something wears out, such as the pan, but such an event is improbable. The other rice cooker that I have had for over 20 years is made with similar lightweight materials, and I have never felt the need to order replacement parts.

Summary for Tiger Electric Rice Cooker, 4 Cup:

- makes great white rice or whole grains (choose whole grains for health reasons)
- thoughtful and useful instruction manual
- will last for decades
- easy to clean (including the steam vent compartment)
- easy to use (push the button)

One last bit of advice, I saw on a TV cooking review segment on simple one-button rice cooker models (such as this Tiger model) versus the digital bells-and-whistle rice cookers. The reviewers found that if you want to cook rice (and in my opinion whole grains too), the simple one button models did a fine job.

Tiger makes very good rice cookers. I've used this brand for years. The 4 cup size is perfect for singles or small family. Rice comes out perfect each time.
