The short version:  Yes, you want to read this, but only if you like quirky characters, a good mystery, high fashion, feisty heroines who faint on occasion, dashing heroes who are over-protected, well-meaning family, and knowing the bad guy (or girl) gets what (or she) deserves.  If you want a simple, boring story, then this is not the story and Jen Turano is not the author for you.

This is the second book in the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency series.  Good news!  If you haven't read the first one, it's okay to start here; you won't have missed anything important.  Jump in here.  Or go back and read To Steal a Heart first and then read this one.  That would be a great idea too.

I have read every book by Jen Turano and she still continues to surprise me.  I thought I knew what to expect and so, foolishly didn't so much as skimming a description of this book before I began to read it and so I was surprised to discover Daphne matched with Herman rather than Cooper in this second novel in the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency series.  Even as I met Herman, I was convinced he wouldn't be her romantic interest.  They were far too similar.  And, yet, because I wasn't paying attention, I didn't realize until the end that it was their similarities that made them perfect for each other.  The conflict Daphne and Herman face on their road to Happily Ever After is not irreconcilable differences, but multiple murder plots and interfering family.

It is an intriguing and entertaining path they take through New York City, a Hudson River house party, Boston, and back again to the City.  All the while, they slowly adjust to the idea that they may have finally met their match in life and wonder what to do about it.  As if that isn't enough of a struggle, they must also determine who is trying to kill Herman.  I have to admit that was the biggest surprise of all.

A Surprise from Beginning to End

First I loved the play on the title of this read, it really resonates with the story. We are back with the Beeker Street Inquiry Agency, and this story forcus is on Daphne Beekman, and this book can be read alone, even though it is the second book in this great series!

As usual this author has me laughing out loud, along with page-turning. We are given some very real danger, along with some sweet romance! From readers to writers, from rapiers to pistols, from hair pins to keys, we are on a journey to find who wants Herman gone, and why?

You certainly won't be bored with this one, and be sure to read the epilogue!

Inquiry

Book 2 of The Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency was absolutely worth waiting for and filled with wonderful banter. I just could not get enough of Miss Daphne Beekman.  I adored the way her mind worked even if I have no idea how her mind works! LOL
Daphne is a writer that publishes under the name Montague Moreland.  And she is under contract to never disclose that she, a female, writes these well loved mystery novels.  By night she writes under the name Montague Moreland but during the day she is an agent with The Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency.  As an Inquiry Agent she uses her knack for deducing things to help with cases and is generally not in the field.  That all changes when Mr. Herman Henderson, another mystery writer and Daphne's biggest competitor, hires Bleecker Street to solve the most intriguing case.  
Jen Turano, once again, had me laughing at the antics of the characters and the situations they find themselves in.   While I did laugh and absolutely love the humor and lighter aspects of this book it also touched on deeper topics such as the rights of women.  Also, a theme of being strong, courageous in who you are, and praying through that, is seen throughout the book.  
I absolutely enjoyed every moment of this book and would highly recommend it.

Adventure!  Banter! Murder?

To Write a Wrong by Jen Turano is the second book in her Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency series. Daphne Beekman is an inquiry agent. She also writes mystery stories under an assumed name. When she takes on the attempted murder of fellow author Herman Henderson, she becomes a target too. You know when you pick up a Jen Turano book that youre going to meet some quirky characters. Daphne is no exception! But the awesome thing is, Herman doesnt care how different she is, he sees the person underneath. There were plenty of suspects in the story. You never knew who to trust. I thought the ending was a little rushed. But overall a cute story.

Victorian Romance/Suspense

This was a wonderful Historical Romance that kept me engaged with the intrigue and made me smile and laugh out loud numerous times!! The characters were so endearing! I loved the story! First, I loved the characters! I was already Daphnes friend since book 1 in the series. She is a hilarious yet sweet and naïve character, and so loyal! I just loved her and particularly enjoyed her numerous antics, and couldnt wait to read her own story! And it surpassed my expectations! As Jens books normally do. Her new book turns into my new favorite and that is the case with this story! And Herman! He was a new character to the story, yet he charmed me from the start! His quiet yet charming ways, his kind heart, he was a true gentleman, and a true hero! And his relationship with Daphne was so enjoyable! I loved their innocent witty banter, and I loved his love of his grandmother too! She was another side character that I loved! This series is completely enchanting! I love that it makes you laugh, swoon and even captivates you in the suspense! The mystery about the attempting murderer was excellently done! It makes you doubt almost anyone (except for the ones you already know) and I loved how everything is discovered and solved in the end. Wonderful ending! Theres also a faith inspired message that flows natural from the characters! And the most sweet and endearing romance, truly! A book I most definitely recommend! You wont regret reading this story and youll have a great time while you do!

Wonderful Historical Romantic Comedy with Intrigue

After reading several rather intense books, To Write a Wrong was the perfect break. As usual, Jen Turano provided a great mystery with plenty of comic relief. I as pleased to once again experience her wonderful sense of humor and quirky characters set in the Gilded Age. Turano's writing is not all light hearted though; she does address serious topics, in this case sexual abuse, taking advantage of the vulnerable, and having the courage to stand up for oneself. 

I am very grateful to have received a complement copy of To Write a Wrong from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation, and cannot wait for the next installment in the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency series. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Delightful

I just have to say, I love Jen Turano's books. Her mastery and aptitude with words, her knack for combining lots of laughter with intrigue and her skill for seamlessly interconnecting faith and the characters' lives is a true gift. I try to always be on a list for her newest books.

Daphne Beekman, an inquiry agent and mystery writer, tries to stay out of the spotlight.  One evening when she goes by the office after hours, Daphne is startled when Herman Henderson, fellow mystery writer, shows up.

Dressed as a pirate, Daphne had planned to run by the office, which was only a few blocks from her home. Daphne hoped to garner ideas for her pirate tale. Herman wonders if he wants to retain the services of an agency which has a pressed paperboard cutlass-wielding pirate to unravel his problem.

So begins the delightfully, and sometimes harrowingly, adventurous tale of the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency's endeavors to solve the attempts on poor Herman Henderson's life. Daphne's escapades supply comic relief as well as clues to the mystery. 

Several other characters in the story range from kind and genteel to horrific and deranged. The story of the latter's character and his inexcusable behavior, along with its disclosure, may be difficult for some readers.

To Write a Wrong is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. However, to really enjoy the story, I recommend reading the first book in the series, too.

Mystery, Intrigue and Laughter

To Write a Wrong by Jen Turano is the 2nd tale in The Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency series.  I suggest reading To Steal a Heart before beginning To Write a Wrong (you will not regret it).  Miss Daphne Beekman is an author as well as an agent with the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency.  Daphne is an unusual woman for her time period.  She is spirited, creative, clever, clumsy, and loyal with a tendency to swoon.  Daphne carries a large handbag that holds a multitude of items that tend to come in handy including a pistol.  Mr. Herman Henderson comes to the agency late on a Friday night to engage their services.  Herman is a published author who is actually Daphnes competitor.  Herman has had four attempts on his life, and he wishes to hire the agency to find out who is behind the attempts.  This is the beginning of a humorous, boisterous adventure.  I always look forward to Jen Turanos book because I can count of them to make me laugh.  To Write a Wrong did not disappoint.  I did find it a little bit of a slow starter.  The first scene between Herman and Daphne seemed to go on too long (it felt a little off).  I love that Daphne can hold her own.  She might swoon on occasion (she is working on it), but Daphne is not a woman to back down.  There is a scene with Daphne at her publishers in Boston that shows off her strengths.  I could envision the scene and the faces of the men in the room which had me chuckling (the thought of that scene still makes me laugh).  To Write a Wrong is a busy book.  I liked all the activity and quirky characters.  Romance abounds with the ladies as they meet some new gentlemen.  Some things never change.  Issues women faced then are some of the same problems women face now.  The author brought 1887 New York and Boston to life with her vivid writing.  To Write a Wrong is a multifaceted, historical novel that is a delight to read.  To Write a Wrong is droll historical tale with matchmaking grandmamas, a pilfering parrot, a concerned cousin, protective relatives, writing woes, and a not so secret non de plume.

A humorous historical tale!

Hilarious! Thats what I expect from Jen Turano and she delivers. 
Double fun in this second book in the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency is that we get to see more of Daphne Beekman from the first book. She is a mystery writer by day and an agent by night. When she meets fellow author Herman Henderson while she is trying to combat writers block it adds to the hilarity. I especially liked when Daphne talks to Winston, the one eyed dog and Pretty Girl, The thieving parrot. The glimpses into the writing world of the late 19th century was written as only a wordsmith could. 
Daphne is quirky and that is part of her charm and the reason Herman is taken with her. Herman ran a hand over his face again, feeling quite as if he had landed smack-dab into one of his more complicated plots and one he had no idea how to get out of successfully.
Ms. Turanos writing reminds me of an Oscar Wilde play especially the house party at Hermans estate complete with matchmaking grandmothers and ladies who want nothing to do with Herman. The author rounds out the story with other interesting characters, on old mystery and weaving in seemingly overused situations to great effect. 
Im anxious to learn about mysterious Eunice in the next book.

All kinds of fun

To Write a Wrong, by Jen Turano, is the second book in the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency series. Brimming with humor, surprises, and charm, this historical romance is absolutely endearing and thoroughly entertaining! Abounding with the mystery, intrigue, suspense, romance, and unconventional circumstances that make Ms. Turanos novels such a delight to read, this book does not disappoint.

Ms. Turano has proven herself to be a gifted author who excels at using descriptive writing, witty dialogue, and uniquely memorable characters to create stories that are as original as they are engaging. As the characters in this book navigate unexpected difficulties, evaluate their expectations, and pursue their goals, they are relatable and inspiring. Whether in a grand estate, a sprawling garden, an attic room, or even a swiftly flowing river, the characters in To Write a Wrong never cease to dazzle and amaze the reader again and again. Throughout the novel, Ms. Turano also incorporates creative plot twists and swift pacing that serve to elevate the story into something that is truly captivating and enjoyable. Page after page, this book also offers a meaningful story of hope, truth, and perseverance that is encouraging and touching.

Well-written, meaningful, amusing, and thoughtful, To Write a Wrong is a stunning addition to a wonderful series. From beginning to end, this uplifting book is a genuine pleasure to read. It is a praiseworthy book that I recommend wholeheartedly.
