We went through heck. We had 1 rat that terrorized our home. Put holes the size of baseballs through our walls, even opens the metal garbage can to get food. Holes in cupboards. Blew out an electrical outlet and still lived. The last straw was him climbing through our bedroom's awake and while sleeping.We used the Victor wooden traps but he kept setting them off and walking away with the food. He would never go near the tom cat one. He set it off once and never once went back to it.Then finally I set up 5 Victor Traps and the Tom Cat again, he set off all the Victor traps and then went for the Tom Cat and it finally killed him.He was a foot long, one big rat. We were so tormented by one rat, he kept out smarting us, every time. He even stole a 10 pound bag of potatoes never even opened. We woke up to an empty bag, we searched everywhere for the potatoes and found them in a corner in the garage.We found a winter boot filled with cat food. Cut off all food and water source, close toilets, clean sinks. Set up multiple traps. There rats are darn smart.

TERRORIZED BY ONE RAT

Bought one of these two springs ago to deal with a chipmunk infestation after reading a bunch of recommendations. Surprised to get a chipmunk in under an hour after setting outside. Next visitor was a mole followed by a mouse which surprise me given more resistance on the actuator. Actually bought for my elderly mother as the bait section threads up from the bottom and it can be set by your foot keeping the hands entirely free from the actuator and jaws. Have recommended this to others and getting one or two more today.

Exceptional! Works for chipmunks, moles and mice

I have a rat infestation in my garage. I think six rats are too. Now I'm not catching any, but doing research online, it's not the traps fault, it's my location setting, as well as bait. I'm trying a new tactic since I have found more holes in my garage walls. This has to be the easiest set trap yet. The only way to truly hubr yourself, is if you pretty much do it on purpose. Just don't touch the trigger flap / tongue once set. It will hurt / break your finger. If it's not set properly, use a knife or took to trigger it, and set it again. If you're not catching rats with this, it's not the trap, it's the setting / location or bait. Do NOT put your bait on the flap. Rats are incredibly caring when it comes to eating. They can eat without applying weight on the trigger. I put my bacon on it, and halfway in the trigger hole so it makes it a bit of a challenge to get out. Do your research on how / where / what to use. No doubt the hunt will be successful. Didn't take any pictures, no sense, we all know what a dead rat in a trap looks like.

Firstly I want to dispute the other review of 1-5 It's totally inaccurate and I would rate the Tom Cat Rat Snap Trap 15/10 if the rating would go so high….

I want to do a detailed analysis of this incredible invention which solved many issues plagued by antiquated old technology : wood base & metal bait/ trigger devices & the newer plastic bait / trigger devices as an A.-B comparison.

I found the baiting circular unit / trigger to be vastly superior in catching rodents &  in ease of setting  safely. 

This devise has an elongated ( press down leaver ) which is  far away from the baiting circle and allows easy safe baiting of the trigger.

Compared to the metal old fashioned rectangular  wire type traps with a metal or plastic bait /trigger which is extremely hard to set.

After several usages on the old type wood based traps I found the metal bait triggers ( not functioning correctly ) after 1-3 uses.

I found the metal would distort and would not trigger correctly  to catch .

 I also found the  plastic bait /triggers are  either to sensitive and go off to soon or be extremely difficult and dangerous to set up and bait.

I want to comment on our ( Rat ) which was so smart it took the TOM CAT to catch it … our little friend was evading our old fashioned antiquated rat traps for 7 months  with no results finally success !!!!!  thanks to this amazing Tom Cat Snap Trap ……

This Tom Cat Trap  was : 

-Safe to Bait  

-Reusable 

-Extremely Effective & Quick  in Catching Rat. 

-Simple and easy to release the rodent out of the trap into a garage can just by pressing the lever at one end.

( No wire stuck in the head like old traps and removing it with blood and close proximity to your fingers )

Best Rat Trap on the Market Safe & Effective

When it works, IT WORKS. When it doesn't you are left with rats in variable levels of disrepair. I have had to euthanize a few with a floor scraper to the neck. I wouldn't say it is rare. A few got caught in the middle. Some had rear leg(s) trapped. Some are apparently well enough to relocate. The first one I had to euthanize was VERY upsetting.
There must be a way to design it so it snaps the right area. A V shaped chute?

The bait were gone across all 3 traps but the trap was not triggered at all.

They don't work. The rat literally put all of its' weight on the trigger plate and comfortably ate the peanut butter, and nothing happened, nothing at all, except for the rat being extremely satisfied. Within one hour, I had 4 recordings of the rat doing the same thing over and over. See for yourself!

Doesn't work!

I bought this trap three weeks ago and the rats kept eating the bait and leaving, so I adjusted the throat plate and caught one rat. Now, the throat plate won't adjust down at all and the rats are back to eating the bait and leaving, then the bait trap holder fell out and got lost outside. This product is crap.

Horribly cheap and doesn't stand up.

Absolutely horrified with this product. It caught a fox cub's mouth in the trap while placed outside resulting in such significant damage that the cub needed to be euthanized.
