Applying

Total Boat Polyester Fairing Compound mixes easily and spreads smoothly, making it easy to work with. i get very few pinholes.

Great Product

Got too hot here before I had a chance to use it.   Today's high will probably be about 100 decrees. It might cool down for a short time before summer really hits.  But it may be October before I can finish this project.    Notwithstanding that, I am totally sold on Jamestown and Total Boat products.

Still a fan of Total Boat products

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used to repair some holes and dings in my fish holds.  super easy to apply, super easy too sand and shape. reasonably good strength.

So easy to use!

This product was relatively easy to apply, but a bit messy.  Even when cured, it was fairly soft and tacky.  I understood it should still be tacky, but compared to the laminating polyseter resin, it was *very* tacky and soft.  I definitely went through a lot of sandpaper removing the excess. If using this product, try to get as much excess with the scraper as you can to minimize your sanding.

Easy To Apply, but Will Gum Up Your Sandpaper!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Did not work as a filler over epoxy plus microballons and marine plywood. It was slow to set up and did not adhere well. It definitely could not be sanded in 30 minutes as described. By the next day it was pretty hard and was well adhered to the plywood.  But if I was willing to wait overnight I might as well use epoxy plus microballoons.  I wanted a quick-setting filler so I could fill and paint the same day.   That said, TotalBoat refunded my money on this so I cannot complain too much.  Maybe I was using it in a manner that was not anticipated, but I have used bondo in the past for this type of thing and it worked well.

Did not work for my project

I like how smooth and creamy it is. I would rate it higher, however, when it dries it dries with almost a tackiness that disappears as you sand.  That is what I don't like about it.

I might buy this product a third time.

This stuff mixes nicely and spreads easily with a nice consistancy. The problem I have is that is cures very hard and is difficult to smooth out.  I had to use 40 grit on an sir sander to take out the high spots, and even that took a long time.

Sands like iron

Product comes out bright white and does not take wood stain.  It can be sanded readily as advertised but make sure you are wearing a mask while doing so as the fumes are noxious.

Does not harden.  Doesn't matter how much you catalyze.  See other reviews for the same issue.

Does not harden

Used for a simple deck repair for spider cracks and a couple of minor holes.  The holes I made epoxy repairs leaving room for fairing.  Wanted a fairing compound that gelcoat could be placed over without a primer.  Thought this was the fairing compound to use after seeing the video, reading the documentation and reviews.  This fairing would not harden even after 24 hours.  Stays gummy and sticky.  Tried varying the component hardener with same results.  Made sanding very difficult, even with wet sanding.  Also found the material shrinks and does not look as well as the TB videos make it out to be.  Was a real mistake using this fairing compound.  Something that was supposed to be so simple wound up being a mess.  Would not recommend using.

Stays soft - does not harden
